Component Tests and General Diagnostics






Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hand Vacuum Pump (VAS 6213)

Test Conditions:

Hose from exhaust turbocharger over wastegate bypass regulator valve (N75) must have continuity to vacuum diaphragm.

Wastegate bypass regulator valve OK.

Procedure:

- Disconnect electrical connector on mass airflow (MAF) sensor (G70) - 3 -.






- Open clips - 1 and 2 - and remove air guide hose from MAF sensor.

- Remove front air intake connector on lock carrier - 4 -.

- Remove engine cover.

- Connect the (VAS 6213) to vacuum diaphragm - arrow -.






- Set the slide ring - 1 - on (VAS 6213) to position - B - for "pressure".






The pressure must not exceed 750 mbar. If the pressure is exceeded, the vacuum diaphragm can be damaged.

- Operate the (VAS 6213) several times and observe rods.

The linkage - A - must move approximately 300 mbar and be at approximately 700 mbar at end position.

Actuator lift is approximately 10 mm.






If pressure cannot be raised with the (VAS 6213) or pressure drops immediately, check the (VAS 6213) and connecting hoses for leaks. If no malfunction can be found: Replace vacuum diaphragm, refer to => [ Turbocharger Vacuum Diaphragm ] Service and Repair.
