Left Flange Shaft






Left Flange Shaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drip tray (V.A.G 1306)

Puller (T10037)

Removing

Transmission installed.

- Remove heat shield - arrow - over the left drive axle from the transmission.





- Remove left drive axle from transmission flange and tie up.

- Place drip tray (V.A.G 1306) underneath transmission.

- Remove bolts - arrows - on left flange shaft retaining plate.





- Tighten Puller (T10037) on differential cover - arrow -.





- Pull left flange shaft using puller (T10037) only far enough out until bearing on shaft is pulled out of transmission housing.

CAUTION!
If you do not keep the shaft centered, the splines of the shaft will fall against the inner shaft seal between final drive and transmission housing. The shaft seal will be damaged and will have to be replaced. Refer to => [ Final Drive/Transmission Housing Shaft Seal, Replacing ] Final Drive, Differential (01VA Transmission).

- Pull flange shaft - A - out of transmission while holding shaft centered on differential opening - arrow -.





Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

- Clean flange shaft.

- Insert flange shaft - A - into transmission and guide the shaft into seal of differential - arrow -, keeping the shaft centered.





If the shaft is not held centered, the shaft teeth damage the sealing ring between the final drive and transmission housing. The shaft seal must then be replaced. Refer to => [ Final Drive/Transmission Housing Shaft Seal, Replacing ] Final Drive, Differential (01VA Transmission).

- Fasten left drive axle to the flange shaft.

- Check oil level in front final drive.
