Front Passenger Airbag

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.





1 - Front Passenger Airbag Unit

• Removing

- Disconnect the battery ground strap.

- Remove glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Service and Repair.

- Disconnect connector behind airbag unit. Refer to => [ Disconnect Airbag Connector ]

CAUTION!
Connector - 5 - (2-pin) on passenger airbag unit must not be disconnected under any circumstances!

- Remove the brace - 7 -.

- Remove the support - 2 - behind the airbag unit.

- Remove nut - 3 - (Qty. 4).

- Remove airbag unit.

- Lay airbag unit so padding faces upward.

• Installing

- Install airbag unit.

- Ensure connector behind airbag unit engages completely (audibly). Refer to => [ Disconnect Airbag Connector ]

- Switch the ignition on.

CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect the battery ground cable.

2 - Supports

• Always replace after airbag has deployed.

• Remove passenger's airbag unit.

• Remove bolts - 4 - (Qty. 4).

3 - Nuts (Qty. 4)

• always replace after airbag has deployed

• Tightening specification 9 Nm.

4 - Screws (Qty. 4)

• always replace after airbag has deployed

• Tightening specification 9 Nm.

5 - Connector

6 - Airbag Unit Frame

• Always replace after airbag has deployed.

• Remove passenger's airbag unit.

7 - Brace

Disconnect Airbag Connector





- Press catch - A - and disconnect connector in direction of - arrow -.





1 Connector retaining base

• Follow the safety precautions after connecting the battery.

• If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ( K75) shows a malfunction after assembly, DTC memory must be checked with Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051 A), cleared and then rechecked.

Passenger Airbag Off Lamp

Removing

- Carefully pry off the reading lamp cover.





- Disconnect electrical connectors.





- Release the retaining hooks - arrows - and remove the "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" light - 1 -.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

- Install the interior lamp and tighten to 3 Nm.
