Shifter M/T: Adjustments
Shift Mechanism, Adjusting
The following points are essential to ensure correct shift adjustment:
• Operating and transfer elements of shift mechanism must be in proper condition.
• Shift mechanism must move freely.
• The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must be in proper condition.
• Transmission in neutral position.
Procedure
- Remove shift knob with cover. Refer to => [ Shift Knob with Cover ] Shift Knob With Cover.
Vehicles with large radio slot:
- Remove air conditioning operating unit.
Vehicles with small radio slot:
- Raise cover - 1 - first in direction of - arrow A - and pull this out in direction of - arrow B -.
All Vehicles
- Remove bolts - arrow C - and then remove ashtray - 2 - from center console.
- Disconnect ashtray lighting electrical connector.
- Remove foam wedges from center console.
- Remove noise insulation upward.
- Remove shifter housing noise insulation - arrows -.
- Measure the distance - a - between both threaded bolts in shift mechanism.
• Specification: Dimension a = 85 mm
• Measured from center of threaded bolt to center of threaded bolt.
- If this is not the case, adjust distance - a - as follows:
- Loosen bolt - arrow - for push rod.
• The rear push rod in the shift mechanism must move easily back and forth on the sliding piece.
- Set dimension - a - by moving the rear push rod in the shift mechanism.
- Tighten push rod bolt - arrow - to 23 Nm.
- Loosen selector rod bolt - arrow -.
• The connection of selector rod to selector mechanism must move freely
Align shift lever as follows:
- Center the lower selector lever into the center of the ball guide.
• The distance from the ball guide to the lower selector lever - arrows - must be equal at all places.
- Align shift lever so that it points in direction of travel and faces only very slightly (2°) toward right.
- Hold shift lever in this position.
- Tighten selector rod bolt - arrow - to 23 Nm.
• Shift lever position must not change after tightening bolt.
Shift lever adjustment, checking
• The shift lever must rest in the 3rd/4th gear gate when transmission is in neutral.
- Operate the clutch.
- Shift through all the gears several times.
- Check function of reverse gear lock.
• The shift lever must move from the reverse gear gate into the 3rd/4th gear gate on its own.
Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection, then repeat the selector adjustment.
