ATF Lines and Cooler, Cleaning

Before installing a replacement transmission, clean ATF cooling lines and cooler.

Observe cleanliness rules when working on automatic transmissions. Refer to => [ Cleanliness Working Conditions ] Cleanliness Working Conditions.

Thoroughly clean all connections and the surrounding area before disconnecting.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782 )

Compressed air gun, commercially available

Hose dia. approximately 18 mm

Protective glasses

Procedure

- Place the Oil Collecting and Extracting Device ( V.A.G 1782) underneath.

- Remove bolt - 2 -.





- Pull off ATF lines from transmission.

- Place a hose approximately 18 mm dia. on ATF line - A - and secure with hose clamp. Attach the other end of the hose into the Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782).

CAUTION!
Wear protective glasses.

- Blow through the ATF line - B - with a compressed air gun (with max. 10 bar).

- Change hose from ATF line - A - to ATF line - B - and repeat procedure.

If heavily contaminated ATF comes out:

- If present, remove ATF line from auxiliary ATF cooler and flush it with clean ATF.

- Flush ATF lines with clean ATF and clear the lines again with compressed air.

- Insert ATF lines by hand completely into transmission or cooler as far as stop and then tighten. Refer to => [ ATF Lines, 3.0L Gasoline Assembly Overview ] .

- Check and correct ATF level in planetary gearing. Refer to => [ ATF Level In Planetary Gearing, Checking and Correcting ] ATF Level In Planetary Gearing, Checking and Correcting.
