Output Flange/Driveshaft O-Ring
(Transmission installed)
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pressure piece (3402)
• Engine/transmission lifter (VAG1383A) with Universal transmission holder (VAG1359/2)
Removing
- Remove front exhaust system with catalytic converter.
- Remove heat shield for driveshaft from cover for Torsen differential (arrows).
- Remove driveshaft - 1 - from transmission and let rest on heat shield - 2 -.
- Secure driveshaft using wire (arrow) to bracket - 3 - of fuel lines or support driveshaft using engine/transmission hoist (VAG1383A).
- Drain center differential gear oil. Refer to => [ Center Differential Gear Oil, Changing or Filling ] .
- Unbolt output flange driveshaft while securing output flange/driveshaft against turning using a drift.
- Pull out output flange/driveshaft.
- Remove O-ring using appropriate screwdriver.
Installing
Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:
- Coat outer edge and sealing lip of oil seal with gear oil.
- Drive O-ring in to stop using pressure piece ( 3402).
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease G 052 128 A1.
- Secure output flange/driveshaft with socket-head bolt.
- Bolt driveshaft to output flange/driveshaft.
- Install front exhaust system with catalytic converter.
- Fill transfer housing with gear oil and check oil level. Refer to => [ Center Differential Gear Oil, Changing or Filling ] .
