Compression Check: Testing and Inspection






Compression, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Spark plug removal tool (3122 B)

Compression tester (V.A.G 1763)

Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)

Test Conditions

Engine oil temperature min. 30 °C

Battery voltage at least 12.5 V

Test Sequence

- Open quick-release fasteners - arrows - and remove the engine cover.





- Disconnect fuel injector connectors - 2 -.





Ignore - 1 - and - 3 -.

- Remove Ground (GND) wire - 2 -.





- Disconnect the electrical connectors - 3 - and free up the electrical wires.

- Remove ignition coils - 1 -.

Use the Ignition Coil Puller (T40039) to remove the ignition coils.





- Using Spark Plug Removal Tool (3122 B), remove spark plugs.

- Check compression using Compression Tester (V.A.G 1763 ).

Using the compression tester. Refer to => Operating instructions.

- Have a second technician press accelerator pedal completely and at the same time operate starter long enough until pressure increase no longer appears on tester.

Compression pressure:





- Install spark plugs and ignition coils.

Replace ignition coil seals if damaged.

- As a final step, check Engine Control Module (ECM) DTC memory and erase it, since malfunctions were stored by disconnecting electrical connectors.
