Front Backrest and Seat Pan

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095)

• Fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136)





1 Bolt

• Tightening specification 24 Nm

• replace with locking compound

2 Bolt

• Tightening specification 4 Nm

3 Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Handle

• Disengage the seat fore/aft adjustment release cable. Refer to => [ Disengaging the seat forward/back adjustment actuating link ].

4 Bolt

• Tightening specification 24 Nm

• replace with locking compound

5 Seat Pan

Removing

- Remove seat => [ Seat ] Seat.

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove side trim on sill side. Refer to => [ Side Trim ] Side Trim.

- Remove side trim on tunnel side. Refer to => [ Side Trim ] Side Trim.

- Remove control module. Refer to => [ Control Module ] Control Module.

- Drill out the pop rivets using a 4.0 mm diameter drill and remove the retaining plate for the relay sockets and wiring harness. Refer to => [ Removing the blind rivet, disconnecting the
connector and pneumatic hose ].

- Disconnect seat heater connector => [ Removing the blind rivet, disconnecting the
connector and pneumatic hose ].

- Disconnect pneumatic hose => [ Removing the blind rivet, disconnecting the
connector and pneumatic hose ].

- Free up electrical wires on seat pan.

- Disengage the seat fore/aft adjustment release cable from release lever. Refer to => [ Disengaging the seat forward/back adjustment actuating link ].

- Remove bolts - 1 -, - 4 - and - 11 -

- Remove bolts - 6 - and - 8 - and set backrest aside behind seat pan.

- Remove seat pan.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

- Insert bolts with locking compound.

6 Bolt

• Tightening specification 20 Nm

• replace with locking compound

• Locking compound.

7 Backrest

Removing

- Remove seat. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove side trim on sill side. Refer to => [ Side Trim ] Side Trim.

- Remove side trim on tunnel side. Refer to => [ Side Trim ] Side Trim.

- Remove control module. Refer to => [ Control Module ] Control Module.

- Disconnect pneumatic hose. Refer to => [ Removing the blind rivet, disconnecting the connector and pneumatic hose ].

- Disconnect the backrest heating electrical connector and pull the wire through under the relay socket retaining plate.

- Remove bolts - 1 -, - 4 - and - 11 -

- Remove seat pan - 5 -.

- Disconnect the pneumatic block wiring harness cable ties on the seat pan.

- Remove the seat forward/back adjustment handle - 3 - by removing the bolt - 2 -.

- Disengage the seat forward/back adjustment actuating from the release lever. Refer to => [ Disengaging the seat forward/back adjustment actuating link ].

Disengage the seat rail release lever. Refer to => [ Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Actuating Link ].

- Remove the bolt on the sill side bracket.

- Remove bolts - 6 - and - 8 -.

- Remove backrest and guide electrical wiring harness out of seat frame.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

- Insert bolts with locking compound.

8 Bolt

• Tightening specification 20 Nm

• replace with locking compound

9 Pneumatic Hose

• For lids for backrest bolster inflation adjustment

10 Electrical Wiring Harness

11 Bolt

• Tightening specification 24 Nm

• replace with locking compound

12 Seat Frame

Removing the blind rivet, disconnecting the connector and pneumatic hose





- Drill out the pop rivet - arrows - using a 4.0 mm drill and remove the relay socket and wiring harness retaining plate - 1 -.

- Disconnect the seat heater electrical connector - 2 -.

- Cut all the cable ties and free up the electrical wiring.

- Disconnect the pneumatic hose - 3 - at the connecting piece - 4 -.

Disengaging the seat forward/back adjustment actuating link





- Remove the seat forward/back adjustment handle.

- Press cable sleeve in - direction of arrow A - out of bracket.

- Disengage the seat forward/back adjustment actuating link - 1 - from the release lever - arrow B -.
