Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair
ATF Cooler
• Automatic transmission clean working conditions, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
• General repair instructions, refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Protective eyewear
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Mark the ATF cooling hoses on the ATF cooler in different color to prevent mixing them up later.
- Place (V.A.G 1782) beneath transmission.
Wear protective eyewear.
- Clamp off the ATF cooling hoses to the ATF cooler using (3094).
- Remove the coolant hoses from ATF cooler.
- Seal off the ATF coolant hoses with clean sealing plugs.
• Sealing off the lines as quickly as possible prevent the coolant from draining out of the cooling system.
- Remove the three bolts - arrows - and remove the ATF cooler - B -.
• Always replace both ATF seals between the ATF cooler and the transmission.
- Seal off both openings in the transmission with clean plugs.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
- Replace both ATF seals between the ATF cooler and the transmission.
- Coat both new ATF seals with ATF and attach them to the ATF cooler.
- Mount the ATF cooler - B - onto the transmission and tighten the bolts - arrows - to 10 Nm.
- Install ATF cooling hoses to ATF cooler.
- Check coolant level in cooling system.
- Check the ATF level and correct if necessary. Refer to => [ ATF Level, Checking ] ATF Level, Checking.
