Valve Cover: Service and Repair






Cylinder Head Cover

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Ignition Coil Puller (W8 & W12 Eng.) (T10166)

Sealant

Removing

The following repair is described for cylinder head bank 2 (left) with engine removed.

For cylinder head bank 1 (right) the procedure is the same.

- Remove upper part of intake manifold => [ Intake Manifold Upper Section ] Cylinder Head, Valvetrain.

- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Remove ignition coils from spark plugs using Ignition Coil Puller (W8 & W12 Eng.) (T10166).





- Set wiring harness with ignition coils aside.

- Disconnect vacuum hose - 2 - to brake booster.





Ignore - 1 -.

- Remove bracket for rear wiring harness at cylinder head cover.





- Remove electrical harness connectors - 1 - and - 2 - for camshaft adjustment solenoid valves from bracket and disconnect.

- Loosen bolt - arrow - for left rear engine lifting eye by several turns.





- Remove left cylinder head cover bolts in sequence - 1 to 12 -.





- Remove cylinder head cover.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Replace cylinder head cover gaskets if damaged.

Replace bolts if damaged or sealing improperly.

- Coat transitions - arrows - between timing chain cover and cylinder head with a drop of sealant, Sealant.





- Tighten cylinder head cover in sequence - 1 to 12 -.





- Install intake manifold upper-part => [ Intake Manifold Upper Section ] Cylinder Head, Valvetrain.
