After-Run Coolant Pump: Service and Repair
After-Run Coolant Pump
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine support bridge (10-222 A)
• Brace (10-222 A/21)
• Drip tray (V.A.G 1306) or drip tray (VAS 6208)
• Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
Removing
- Activate vehicle lifting mode.
- Disconnect hose - 1 - from air duct hose.
- Remove left air duct hose - arrows -.
- Separate electrical connector - 1 - for right Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor (G70) on air filter housing.
- Disconnect air duct hose - 4 - at intake manifold.
- Unhook retainer for connections - 2 - and - 3 - at upper part of air filter housing.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.
- Remove upper part of right air filter housing.
- Pull off vacuum hose - 4 - from Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve (N80).
• Ignore items - 1 to 3 -.
- Disconnect electrical connection - 6 - at throttle valve control module (J338).
- Disconnect vacuum hose - 1 -.
- Pull off hoses for crankcase breather - 4 - and - 5 -.
- Remove bolts - 2 - and - 3 -.
- Remove right intake manifold side-part.
- Remove cover above coolant reservoir - arrows -.
CAUTION!
Cover cap of expansion tank with rag and open carefully, as hot steam i.e. hot coolant may escape when opening.
- Open cap of coolant expansion tank.
- Remove rubber seal - 1 - for plenum chamber covers.
- Remove plenum chamber covers - 2 - and - 3 -.
- Unclip fuel lines from retainer on the strut tower.
- Remove rear bolts - 3 - for strut tower brace.
- Secure engine support bridge (10-222 A) with supports (10-222 A/21) to the strut towers.
• Support for left and right side of vehicle is marked.
• The middle contact point - 2 - of the support is placed on the front bolts for strut tower brace.
• The supports (10-222 A/21) are secured with the rear bolts - 3 - for strut tower brace.
• The knurled thumb screw - 1 - must be turned downward far enough so that the contact plate rests on the strut tower.
- Secure spindles of the Engine Support Bridge (10-222 A) at the rear engine lifting eyes.
- Strongly pre-tension the engine using the engine support bridge spindles.
- Remove both front wheels.
• Secure brake discs using a wheel bolts.
- Loosen quick-release fasteners - 1 - and - 2 - and remove noise insulation.
- Remove bracket for noise insulation - arrows -.
- Remove bolt - arrow - at bottom of right coolant pipe.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - at left and right Level Control System Sensors.
• Ignore - 1 -.
- Remove bolts - arrows - uniformly at left and right.
- Remove stabilizer.
- Support engine carrier and subframe using Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A) as shown in the illustration.
- Remove bolts - 2 - and - 3 - on both sides of vehicle.
- Then, remove bolt - 1 - alternating on left and right side of vehicle.
- Remove engine carrier.
- Place drip tray (V.A.G 1306) or drip tray (VAS 6208) under engine.
- Disconnect coolant hoses - 2 - and - 3 - from the after-run coolant pump (V51) and drain coolant.
- Disconnect electrical connector - 1 -.
- Remove bolt - arrow -.
- Remove After-Run Coolant Pump (V51).
Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
• Secure all hose connections using hose clamps appropriate for the model type.
- Install subframe.
- Install stabilizer.
- Install right intake manifold side part => [ Right Intake Manifold Side-Section ] Right Intake Manifold Side-Section.
- Install strut tower brace.
- Fill with coolant => [ Filling ] Procedures.
- Deactivate vehicle lifting mode.
