Thermostat: Service and Repair
Coolant thermostat, checking, removing and installing
Note: Always replace seals and gaskets.
Removing
- Drain coolant system. Service and Repair
Vehicles with air conditioning:
WARNING! The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
- Unbolt front engine cover support from intake manifold.
- Detach retainers for refrigerant hoses.
- Unbolt A/C compressor, lift clear together with refrigerant hoses (do not disconnect) and tie in place on hood lock.
All vehicles:
- Disconnect coolant hose from connection -3-.
- Unscrew bolts -4- and remove connection, O-ring -2- and coolant thermostat
Installing
- Clean and smooth down sealing surface for O - ring as required.
- Insert coolant thermostat.
- Installation position: bowed metal strip on thermostat must be vertical.
- Moisten new O ring with coolant G 012 AS D.
- Tighten bolts.
- Fill up with coolant. Service and Repair
Tightening torque
Connection to cylinder block: 15 Nm
Testing coolant thermostat
- Heat thermostat in water bath.
