About Trouble Codes

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Table

NOTE:

- Afterward, all possible malfunctions that are recognized by the A/C control head -E87- and displayed on the VAS 5051 during the checking procedure, are listed according to DTCs.
- The contents of the DTC memory remain stored until the memory is erased.
- Sporadic malfunctions are displayed as "/SP".
- When dealing with any sporadic DTCs, always pay attention to possible loose terminals in harness connectors.
- Before replacing a component that was shown as malfunctioning, check wiring and connections to the component for short circuit and open circuit according to the relevant wiring diagram.
- Before replacing components check the relevant harness connectors.
- Before replacing the A/C control head -E87- check also the voltage supply and Ground (GND) connections:
- If the A/C control head -E87- remains operational although the ignition is switched off, check wiring connection of -E87- harness connector D, terminal 10 for short circuit to B+.
- Always carry out the "Basic Setting" (function 04) after replacing climate control system components. Afterward check DTC memory, eliminate and erase all possible displayed malfunctions (function 02 and 05).
- The display can be changed from C (Celsius) to F (Fahrenheit) and vice-versa by pressing the button "Temperature + left" while simultaneously holding down the recirculated air button.
- Check cooling performance of air conditioning system. A/C Refrigerant System, Testing
- If the compressor output has been reduced 30 times during a driving cycle due to an incorrect pressure in the refrigerant circuit, e.g. because of a loose contact (in wiring connection to High Pressure Sensor -G65-), the A/C Compressor Regulator Valve -N280- is then no longer activated and the compressor is therefore switched off. The compressor can be switched on again by pressing the "AUTO" button, or by switching the ignition off and on again.
- If a malfunction is detected in the potentiometer of one of the air distribution positioning motors, the air distribution can be changed by pressing the buttons of the A/C Control Head -E87-.
- Check the following, if a malfunctioning temperature control has been detected and no malfunction is displayed:
- Correct installation of temperature sensor.
- Reversed wiring to Sunlight Photo Sensor -G107
- Function of Interior Temperature Sensor Fan -V42- (implemented in A/C Control Head -E87-).
- Activation of both temperature flaps via the relevant actuator motors.
- If the DTC memory is checked with the V.A.G 1551 or V.A.G 1552, for certain malfunction types there is no text display (malfunction text will not be implemented in program card for this scan tool).
