HandsFreeLink System Symptom Troubleshooting - No sound when Bluetooth audio is used
No sound when Bluetooth audio is used (with navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Set the fader and balance positions to the center.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
2. Turn on the audio system, and check for sound in each mode (AM/FM and CD).
Is the sound is normal?
YES -
Go to step 3.
NO -
Go to Sound Quality Diagnosis Audio System Sound Quality Diagnosis or No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) troubleshooting Symptom Troubleshooting.
3. Press the HDD/AUX button, and check if it changes to Bluetooth audio source.
Does it change to Bluetooth audio source?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Go to Bluetooth audio does not work troubleshooting Symptom Troubleshooting.
4. Check if it is connected when switching to Bluetooth audio screen by pressing the HDD/AUX button.
Is NO CONNECTION displayed?
YES -
Go to Bluetooth cell phone cannot be paired troubleshooting Bluetooth Cell Phone Cannot Be Paired (With Navigation).
NO -
Go to step 5.
5. Check if the Bluetooth audio device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the audio-navigation unit is OK at this time.
NO -
Go to step 6.
6. Turn on the audio system, and check for XM radio sound.
Is the sound normal?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Go to step 12.
7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
8. Remove the center console panel Center Console Panel Removal / Installation.
9. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.
10. Disconnect audio-navigation unit connector C (14P).
11. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair. If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
13. Remove the center console panel Center Console Panel Removal / Installation.
14. Disconnect these items:
- Audio-navigation unit connector C (14P)
- AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) (USA models)
- XM receiver connector A (14P) (Canada models)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector
15. Check for continuity between the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector and body ground according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit, then AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) or XM receiver, and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 16.
16. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 17.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
17. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 18.
18. Reconnect audio-navigation unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.
19. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
20. Check if the Bluetooth audio device can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
There is an internal malfunction where the connector for either the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) (USA models) or the XM receiver (Canada models) is connected.
NO -
Go to step 21.
21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
22. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 32P connector.
23. Reconnect AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) (USA models) or XM receiver connector A (14P) (Canada models).
24. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
25. Check if the XM radio can be played.
Is the sound normal?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit (including the HDD) Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.
