Symptom Troubleshooting




HandsFreeLink System Symptom Troubleshooting - No sound when Bluetooth audio is used

No sound when Bluetooth audio is used (without navigation)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Testing and Inspection.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Set the fader and balance positions to the center.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

2. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM/FM, XM, and CD).

Is the sound is normal?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Go to Sound Quality Diagnosis Audio System Sound Quality Diagnosis or No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) troubleshooting No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal) (Without Navigation).�

3. Press the AUX button, and check if it changes to Bluetooth audio source.

Does it change to Bluetooth audio source?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).�

4. Check if it is connected when switching to Bluetooth audio screen by pressing the AUX button.

Is NO CONNECTION is displayed?

YES -

Go to Bluetooth cell phone cannot be paired troubleshooting Symptom Troubleshooting.�

NO -

Go to step 5.

5. Check if the Bluetooth audio device can be played.

Does the Bluetooth audio play?

YES -

Intermittent failure, the audio unit is OK at this time.�

NO -

Go to step 6.

6. Connect the HDS to the DLC.

7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode and then the ON mode.

9. Check for DTCs.

Is there any DTCs indicate?

YES -

Repair the indicated DTCs.�

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (XM and USB).

Is the sound is normal?

YES -

Go to step 11.

NO -

Go to step 14.

11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

12. Disconnect audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

13. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.�

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

15. Disconnect these items:

- Audio unit connector C (14P)
- XM receiver connector A (14P)
- USB adapter control unit connector A (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector

16. Check for continuity between the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector and body ground according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 17.

17. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 18.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

18. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 19.

19. Reconnect the audio unit connector C (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

21. Check if the Bluetooth audio device can be played.

Does the Bluetooth audio play?

YES -

There is an internal malfunction where the connector for either the XM receiver or the USB adapter control unit is connected.�

NO -

Go to step 22.

22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

23. Remove the center console panel Center Console Panel Removal/Installation.

24. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

25. Reconnect XM receiver connector A (14P) and the USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).

26. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

27. Check the operation of the reconnected unit.

Is the system normal?

YES -

Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.�

NO -

Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).�
