Cylinder Head Assembly: Service and Repair

Cylinder head

Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.











Removal

Depressurize the fuel system. Refer to: Fuel system pressure release Fuel System Pressure Release


Remove the following items:
- the exhaust manifold. Refer to: Exhaust manifold, B6324S5 Service and Repair
- induction pipe. Refer to: Induction pipe, B6324S5 Service and Repair
- the valve cover. Refer to: Valve cover, B6324S5 Service and Repair
- injectors and fuel rail. Refer to: Injector, B6324S5 Service and Repair.






Note! Note/mark the position of the components before removal.

Lift out the valve lifters. Use a magnet or suction cup.











Caution! Take extra care not to damage the mating faces.

Installation


Caution! Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

Caution! Make sure that the cylinder head screw's threaded holes in the engine block are free of fluid.

Use: Gasket solution, 1161 440

Thoroughly blow clean the oil ducts in the cylinder head.





Check that the left-threaded sleeves are tightened to the bottom.

Caution! Take extra care not to damage the mating faces.

Cylinder head. Refer to: Tightening torque, B6324S5 Tightening Torque





Make sure that the throttle valves (1) and (2) are in place.

Upon replacement of the cylinder head gasket along, reinstall the valve lifters in their original position.







When the cylinder head is replace, valve clearance must be checked. Refer to: Valve clearance check, adjustment, B6324S5 Adjustments.


Install the following items:
- the valve cover. Refer to: Valve cover, B6324S5 Service and Repair
- injectors and fuel rail. Refer to: Injector, B6324S5 Service and Repair
- the intake manifold Refer to: Induction pipe, B6324S5 Service and Repair
- the exhaust manifold Refer to: Exhaust manifold, B6324S5 Service and Repair.

Replace the engine oil and oil filter. Refer to: Oil filter, B6324S5 Service and Repair.

Check the engine oil and coolant levels.
Warm up the engine until the thermostat opens. Check the engine for leaks.
Top up the coolant if necessary. Refer to: Cooling system - draining, charging and bleeding Service and Repair.
