The task of the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is to facilitate parking. When reverse is engaged, the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is activated. An image on the display screen then shows what is behind the vehicle. The display screen also shows help lines that correspond to a distance of 0.3 and 1.5 m backwards. At right-angles to these help lines are lines that show the lateral position of the vehicle. If the steering wheel is moved, the help lines move to the lateral position of the vehicle.
The camera is located in the tailgate and the control module is located on the left-hand side of the cargo compartment.
The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) communicates both with directly connected components via LIN communication and with other control modules via CAN communication.
The control module does not have integrated diagnostics, instead a black screen is shown in the event of a system fault.
The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) and corresponding video camera can be replaced separately.
To check that the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is powered and grounded, ignition position II can be activated and reverse engaged when stationary. If the display screen rises and shows an image of what is behind the vehicle, the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is powered.
For further information, also see Signal specifications.

Signals
The table below summarizes the input signals to and output signals from the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC). The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, LIN communication and controller area network (CAN) communication. The illustration below displays the same information with the Volvo component designations.
