Control module
The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is located on the left-hand side of the cargo compartment, on top of the Trailer module (TRM). The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is equipped with three connections. One to the video camera, one to the video output and a CAN connection.
The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) uses the connection to the camera to send control signals to the camera via LIN communication, receive LVDS video signals and to supply the camera with power.
The video output is used to transfer the NTSC video composite signal to the display screen via T connection on the Multimedia module (MMM).
The CAN connection is used to receive necessary signals from the Steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS), Central electronic module (CEM) and Brake control module (BCM).
The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is activated in ignition position II, when reverse is engaged. When the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is active, the camera is also active.
Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) switches off:
- ignition positions greater than II
- if the ignition position is less than II for longer than 15 seconds
- when reverse gear is disengaged for longer than 30 seconds.
Multimedia module (MMM) switches off:
- when reverse gear has been disengaged for longer than 15 seconds
- or if the speed exceeds 10 km/h.
Logic for display screen
The display screen is controlled by the Multimedia module (MMM) and the screen is controlled by the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC).
When the navigation system is not active the following applies:
- The display screen goes up and the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) displays images when reverse is activated in ignition position II.
- When reverse is disengaged, the display screen is up displaying images for 15 seconds. If the vehicle speed is greater than 10 km/h during these 15 seconds, the display screen goes down. If the navigation system is activated during these 15 seconds, these images are displayed instead.
When the navigation system is active the following applies.
- The Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) displays images when reverse gear is activated in ignition position II.
- When reverse gear is disengaged, the parking camera image is displayed for 15 seconds. If the vehicle speed is greater than 10 km/h during these 15 seconds, images from the navigation system are displayed. If the switch for activating the navigation system is pressed during these 15 seconds, the navigation system image is displayed instead.
Camera
The camera is located in the tailgate, slightly to the right of the handle.
After installing a new camera, it must be set so that the help lines are displayed in the correct place on the screen. This is carried out using a check procedure in Volvo's diagnostic tool. By activating the check procedure, the view of the camera is displayed on screen with a general semi-transparent pattern that should match the contour of the bumper, at the lower edge of the image.
The camera is only activated when the Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) is activated.
