Checking the supply voltage/ground terminal
Checking the power supply and ground terminal
Power supply to the transmission control module (TCM)
The transmission control module (TCM) is supplied power via two voltage inputs.
When the ignition is on, the two voltage inputs are supplied with voltage and the transmission control module (TCM) is in active mode.
1. Voltage input 1 (#A11(#A41)) is supplied power from the ignition switch, position II (KL15, "wake up") via the central electronic module (CEM). This power input is used to activate the transmission control module (TCM). When the power input is supplied with power, the system relay will be activated and power input 11 will be supplied power. The transmission control module (TCM) will not be activated if there is an open circuit.
2. Voltage input 2 #A1(#A31) is supplied power via a fuse from the relay and the engine compartment fuse box. This power input governs the supply of power to the transmission control module (TCM). The transmission control module (TCM) will not be activated if there is an open circuit.
Checking the power supply
Check the power supply cable from the ignition switch to transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A11(#A41) for open circuit, loose connection, contact resistance and oxidation. Check the fuse. The voltage must be approximately battery voltage when the ignition is on.
Check the power supply from the system relay to transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A1(#A31) for open circuit, loose connection, contact resistance and oxidation. Check the fuse. The voltage must be approximately battery voltage when the ignition is on.
Ground terminal, transmission control module (TCM)
The transmission control module (TCM) has a ground connection. For more information on ground connections, see the relevant wiring diagram.
1. The ground input (#A9 (#A39)) is power ground and is connected to the ground connection in the body.
Checking the ground terminal
Check the ground cable between transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A9 (#A39) and the ground connection in the body for open circuit, loose connection, contact resistance and oxidation. With the ignition on, the voltage drop between the transmission control module (TCM) ground connection and chassis connection may not be greater than 0.5 V.
Remedy as necessary.
