DESCRIPTION:
It may happen that customers receive a message that their RTI system needs to be updated before any map update is possible. This mostly concerns vehicles that have IAM software prior to structure week 201046. However, it may also happen that the map update fails even if the IAM has software released after structure week 201046 due to other circumstances (i.e. - the IAM already has the latest set of maps because the unit has been replaced when new maps were available for the hardware but there has not been a MapCare release). In this case the IAM will return a pop-up indicating that the unit already has the latest maps. If a customer comes in to the workshop with a failed map update, please proceed as described under SERVICE.

PRODUCT MODIFICATION:
New IAM SW has been released in 2012W48 to address a problem where, in some rare cases, the map update stops or hangs up while downloading data from map disc 2. The same SW fix can also be helpful when addressing downloading problems from other map discs.

VEHICLE REPORT:
Yes, if none of the suggested solutions below work. Please create a TIE THD Vehicle Report under function group 3972 and include in the title "Sensus, RTI map update fails." Please describe the symptoms as detailed as possible. Pictures and video clips are very helpful and appreciated

SERVICE:
Do not replace any units. Try to get the unit working by using the below mentioned solutions.

The DVD update kit contains the latest maps for the Volvo RTI Navigation system. The kit contains 3 DVDs for the US market:

Disc 1: contains common (basic) data for drawing, guidance, calculation, and graphic items for use by the HMI.

Disc 2: contains area data for search area, such as address search index, POIs etc.

Disc 3: contains voice control/command data.

All three DVDs are required to successfully install the map update.

Known map update issues

Activation PIN code not accepted
Refer to TJ 26064 for instructions on how to obtain activation PIN codes and for the disc part numbers for the most recent MapCare upgrade. There are a couple of items to be aware of regarding the PIN codes:

1) Letter case: PIN codes are 8 digits, alphanumeric, and may contain lowercase letters. However, it is only possible to enter uppercase letters in Sensus. This has no effect on the acceptance of the code as they are NOT case-sensitive. Lowercase letters are used to help distinguish between similar looking letters and numbers (ex. The letter "o" vs. the number "0")

2) Map versions: PIN codes are dependant on VIN and map version. The Navteq website only provides an activation code for the most recent MapCare upgrade. Be sure that the customer has provided the latest disc set according to TJ 26064.

Map update will not start if the USB connection is in use.
Before inserting the first map update disc, remove any devices connected to the USB port. If this is not done the map update may not start.

After/during map update the DTC IAM-B12964A is set.
During the map update, the DTC IAM-B12964A will be set when the old map is erased from the IAM. As there is no map in the system, the diagnostics think there is a mismatch between the market code and the map. This is not correct as there is NO map. Therefore, there can not be any mismatch. Erase the fault code with VIDA and re-check the system.
After map update, it is not possible to set destination by address, POI by name etc.
- First: check if disc 3 is loaded. If disc 3 is not loaded completely, load it completely and check if it is possible to set a destination.
- Second: if all 3 DVDs are loaded completely, and it is still not possible to set destination, then do a battery reset or lock the car and wait until the IAM unit is turned completely off and the network has gone completely to sleep (at least 15 min). Then start up the system and check if it is possible to set destination.

Voice control and/or guidance does not work after map update.
Disc 3 contains all the voice files. Try to load disc 3 again (if possible, try a new DVD). Insert disc 3 and wait at least 60 seconds for the disc to be read. If there still is no indication of the loading process, go to Settings in the navigation menu, select System Information and check if the Map loading progress item is grayed-out. If not, select Map loading progress to manually trigger loading process.

Map updating is stopped at disc 2.
If the map update stops or hangs when loading disc 2, perform an IAM upgrade. After updating the IAM SW, turn off the car and wait at least 5-10 min then try to load disc 2 again. Insert disc 2 and wait at least
60 seconds for the disc to be read. If there is still no indication of the loading process, go to Settings in the navigation menu, select System Information and check if the Map loading progress item is grayed-out. If not, select Map loading progress to manually trigger loading process.

Map updating is stopped at disc 3.
Try to load disc 3 again (turn off the car and wait at least 15 min). Insert disc 3 and wait at least 60 seconds for the disc to be read. If still not possible to load disc 3, try to perform an IAM upgrade. After updating the IAM SW, turn off the car and wait at least 5-10 min. Then start the system and try to load disc 3 again. Insert disc 3 and wait at least 60 seconds for the disc to be read. If there is still no indication of loading process, go to Settings in the navigation menu, select System Information
and check if the Map loading progress item is grayed-out. If not, select Map loading progress to manually trigger loading process.
