Checking Reception Of RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel)
Checking reception of RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel)
Fault-tracing information
This symptom fault-tracing applies if the customer experiences problems with poor reception or traffic messages are not received via RDS-TMC (Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel).
There may be a problem due to the cable to the MMM or antenna cable not being correctly installed. For similar faults, a DTC must be stored in the MMM, fault trace it.
If no DTCs are stored in the vehicle, the fault may be due to one of the following factors:
- TMC is not supported in the country where the vehicle is.
- The vehicle is in an area where TMC is not supported due to lack of antenna coverage.
- Some commercial radio stations, which Volvo does not have agreements with, transmit cryptic messages.
Check for available radio channels by navigating to traffic information:
1. Main menu navigation (NAV).
2. Settings.
3. Traffic information.
Note! All TMC information that is sent via RDS is not relevant. The control module only receives and decodes the signal, no responsibility is taken for the content of the signal.
Hint: The Multimedia Module (MMM) has its own radio receiver and is not dependent on the radio receiver for the integrated audio module (IAM). It is not necessary to fault trace or replace the IAM.
Hint: RDS-TMC receives via the FM frequency, where radio texts are also included. It is not necessary to fault trace or replace the digital radio receiver module (DABM or RDAR).
