Identification Of RSE System
Identification of RSE system
Rear seat entertainment system (RSE), generation 3.1-4.3
Note! This information does not apply to roof mounted systems.
Rear seat entertainment systems are available in a number of different generations. The generations have different designs and are equipped with different functions. This section describes the easiest method to identify which generation of system is installed in the vehicle.
The table below shows which generations are available for each model and model year. This is followed by the most distinct differences between the generations.
The information in the table only applies to factory installed systems. To identify a retrofitted accessory system, see each generation below.
For other information about the systems, see each design and function.
* Until model year 2008 changed to model year 2009.
Generation 3.1

Roof-mounted system for rear seat entertainment
The roof-mounted system consists of a unit with an 8-inch monitor with integrated DVD player.
The unit is mounted in the roof between the front seats. The unit has a monitor that flips down/folds up automatically when switched on/off.
Roof mounted RSE is available in two versions:
- Generation 1 has the DVD player in the roof by the cargo compartment (above the right-hand head restraint), whilst the monitor is in the roof.
- Generation 2 has the DVD player and monitor in the same unit in the roof.
Remote control:
Rear seat entertainment system (RSE), Myron & Davis
* Only applies to North America. XC60 applies globally 2010-.
The system consists of two brilliant 7-inch, 16:9 format LCD screens. The screens can be adjusted manually to minimise the risk of reflections and mirroring in strong light conditions. The DVD players are integrated in the screens. Media discs are loaded from underneath, which reduces the risk of small objects being inserted into the DVD player. The system is equipped with AUX inputs, which make it possible to connect external media sources: iPod , MP3 player, video camera or games console. The system also contains two pairs of wireless headphones and a wireless remote control. The DVD devices have been thoroughly tested and meet Volvo's high demands on safety.
What makes Myron & Davis RSE unique and easy to separate from the other systems is that each head restraint contains a monitor and a DVD player.

Rear seat entertainment system (RSE), Sensus
The system is fully integrated in the car and has two separately controlled, high-resolution 8-inch screens mounted in the head restraints.
The Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) can receive signals from the DVD player, AUX input and USB input in the Integrated Audio Module (IAM), digital TV signals from the Television Module (TVM) and signals from the directly connected A/V AUX-panel. The Rear seat entertainment module (RSE) can also provide output signals to an external screen.
The control module has diagnostics and is mounted above the glovebox.
