Lane Keeping Aid
LKA (Lane Keeping Aid)
LKA (Lane Keeping Aid)
The LKA - Lane Keeping Aid is designed to help the driver keep the vehicle in its lane in instances where the vehicle (driver not indicating) is about to leave the lane accidentally. This is done by applying steering torque to the steering wheel. LKA - Lane Keeping Aid calculates when help is to be given based on the vehicle's position in relation to the lane markings, and on whether the driver uses the indicators or not. The function uses the integrated forward-facing camera in the forward sensing module (FSM) to read the lane's painted markings.
The driver of the vehicle can be helped in two different ways. In cases where the vehicle is drifting out of its lane (without indicating) steering torque is applied to the steering wheel to help the driver retain control of the vehicle. The steering torque is applied to the steering wheel until the vehicle is back in its lane. In cases where the vehicle goes out of its lane (without indicating) with some force (e.g. excessive speed round a bend) that means steering torque cannot be applied to the steering wheel, vibrations are sent through the steering wheel instead.
The function is activated via the switch for LKA - Lane Keeping Aid, which is located in the centre console or via the menu system in the infotainment control module (ICM) (3/281). If there is no switch, activation can only be made via the menu system in the ICM.
