Condition
The signal for input speed comes from a sensor within the transmission control system. The transmission control module (TCM) uses the signal to determine the input shaft speed after the torque converter. This signal is used to compare transmission speed and vehicle speed. The transmission control module (TCM) uses this comparison to calculate the gear-shift timing.
The rpm and road speed data are also utilized in modulating the system pressure and in reducing engine torque when shifting gear. The result is smooth gear-shifting. The information is also used to control the lock-up function.
The transmission control module (TCM) calculates and compares also the transmission input speed and output speed plus the engine speed for diagnosis.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:
- No signal from the speed (rpm) sensor.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
- Engine speed above 600 rpm.

Note! The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.

- Transmission input speed sensor not fitted correctly.
