Fault-Tracing Information
Fault-tracing
Checking the power supply
- Ignition on.
- Read off the power supply for the transmission control module (TCM).
Voltage should be about equal to battery voltage.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
- Read off the power supply for the transmission control module (TCM) again.
The voltage must be raised to 13-15V depending on the generator (GEN) charging voltage.
Select an option:
1. Normal voltage.
2. Voltage too low
3. Voltage too high.
Select an alternative.
1 - Checking the components and wiring
2 - Checking the battery voltage
3 - Checking the power supply
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the battery voltage
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
- Expose the battery.
- Connect a voltmeter between the battery positive and negative terminals.
The voltmeter should read 13-15 V depending on the alternator charging voltage.
Is the voltage OK?
Yes - Checking the wiring and terminals
No - Checking the power supply

Fault-tracing information
If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Do you want to view the information again?
Yes - Attempt New Test
No - FAULT FOUND
------------------------
Attempt New Test - Checking the power supply
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the power supply
Check that no battery charger is connected with too high a charge voltage.
Check the vehicle's charging system with regard to high charging voltage.
Remedy as necessary.
Continue - Verification
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the components and wiring
Fault tracing indicates that the transmission control module (TCM) has previously registered a fault but the fault is no longer active.
Check connector A on the transmission control module (TCM). Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the power supply cable (30 supply). Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Take readings between:
- Transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A1 (#31) and the fuse in the engine compartment relay/fuse box.
Check the power supply cable (15 supply). Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Take readings between:
- Transmission control module (TCM) and ignition switch (via central electronic module (CEM)).
Hint: With the ignition on the voltmeter must display battery voltage at both terminals when measured against ground.
Check the ground cable. Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Take readings between:
- Transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A9 (#39) and grounding point.
Hint: The diagnostic trouble code has been stored because a battery charger with too high of a charging voltage had been connected previously.
Remedy as necessary.

Check the power supply cable (15 supply). Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Take readings between:
- Transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A11 (#41) and the fuse in the passenger compartment relay/fuse box.

Hint: When the ignition is on, the voltmeter should show battery voltage between #A9 (#39) and the positive battery terminal.
Note! No fault is found, fault trace central electronic module (CEM).
Remedy as necessary.
