Fault-Tracing Information
Fault-tracing
Checking components
Note! If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for correlation between the crankshaft position and camshaft position is stored, it must be fault-traced first.
Hint: Contaminants in the engine oil can damage components in the variable valve timing (VVT) unit which can cause function faults.
Check the engine oil grade. Check especially for contaminants.
Remove the camshaft reset valve, check the reset valve and the oil ducts in the cylinder head. Check for contaminants and blockages.
Try a new camshaft reset valve if no fault is found or if the above remedies do not rectify the fault.
Hint: The fault can also be caused by an internal fault in the variable valve timing (VVT) unit. If the above fault-tracing/remedies do not rectify the fault, the variable valve timing (VVT) unit may be damaged.
Remedy as necessary.

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes - Exit fault-tracing
No - Attempt New Test

Verification
Verification
Verification, part 1
Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Verification consists of 2 parts. Part 1 is carried out via a test in the workshop. Part 2 is carried out on the road.
If the function is determined as incorrect in part 1, then part 2 does not need to be carried out. If the function is determined as being correct in part 1 and the vehicle can be tested on the road, part 2 must be carried out. This is because in certain cases the function can be difficult the check in a workshop environment.
- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, components, etc.
- Start and run the engine to operating temperature.
- Read off the shift angle of the camshaft and the desired shift angle of the camshaft to check the function.
Check that the camshaft shift angle corresponds to the desired value for the camshaft shift angle with an accuracy of approximately 8° CA (camshaft angle). The difference between the values can be read off in the lower digital display.
Is the function OK?
Yes - Verification, part 2
No - VERIFICATION FAILED
------------------------
Verification, part 2
- Test drive the car on the road. Use acceleration and engine braking. Repeat the procedure several times so that the camshaft control works and the engine control module (ECM) can carry out diagnostics.
- Connect VCT2000 to the data link connector without switching off the engine.
- Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the diagnostic trouble code by selecting the diagnostic trouble code in the list.
Note! If the engine is switched off, the stored fault status will be erased and the test drive will have to be repeated.
Check the fault status for the diagnostic trouble code when the scan is "Implemented". When the function is correct the fault status should be "No fault found" when the scan is implemented.
