Note! If there are diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) for the CAN fault stored in the Central electronic module (CEM) or Engine control module (ECM) these should be fault traced first.

Checking the component
- Ignition on.
- Read off the reversing light switch status.
Move the gear selector to and from the reversing position ( R) repeatedly and check that the value is updated.
If the value is not updated fault trace the reversing light switch circuit. For information about the cable routing, see the relevant Wiring Diagram.
Remedy as necessary.

No - Verification

- Ignition off.
Check the circuit for gear position 1 with regard to contact resistance and as well as breakage. For information about the cable routing, see the relevant Wiring Diagram.

Verification
- Ignition off.
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Test drive the car.
- Check the function by driving the car in 1st gear and then changing to reverse (R). Drive for at least 15 seconds in both directions.
- Read off the status of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Is the status of the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) intermittent?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
