NOTE! THIS DOCUMENT SUPERSEDES THE PREVIOUS TECHNICAL JOURNAL 23342 DATED 03-15-2012. The Gen II AW TF80 transmission has been added to the VRC2 Prior Approval application for all vehicles with Gen II TF80 transmission. The TJ reference has also been updated. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR FILES.
DESCRIPTION:
For quality assurance, do not perform any warranty repairs, except Transmission Control Module (TCM) replacements, on the transmissions with the Gen II TF80 automatic transmission (see Vehicle Types in header) until further notice. This update to the policy will begin on October 29th, 2012.
In any case of a malfunction of this transmission, the Prior Approval Department must be contacted using the Prior Approval application found on VRC2. This does not include TCM replacements.
To find this application, log into VRC2, choose the Service tab, choose Technical on the left side of the screen, and then choose Prior Approvals.
SERVICE:
Before calling prior approval:
1. Analyze the customers concern and reference any related TJs.
a.) See TJ 16761 for all TCM SW Upgrades
b.) See TJ 26840 for TCM SW specifically created for harsh 5-4 downshift, harsh engagement at a standstill, TCM-P089500, and harsh garage (N-D) shifts.
2. Perform diagnostics as described in VIDA but do not remove any part of the transmission. This does not include the TCM.
3. Fill out and submit the form on VRC2.
The Prior Approval department will decide on any further action.
