DESCRIPTION:
The headlamp assembly may have condensation caused by moisture inside of lens. Some condensation is normal and not considered a defect.
Automotive lamps are designed as an open system and atmospheric humidity can enter the lamp and also exit. The moisture disappears over a time period through the air vents while driving with low beam.
Due to the heat of the lamp the moisture will clear in the light relevant areas.
Moisture in the headlamp assembly, that doesn't disappear, may be caused by water ingress due to cracks in the lens, housing or a defective sealing.
Note: Normal condensation can NOT be avoided by installing a new lamp. There is no damage of the lamp due to normal condensation.
SERVICE:
Perform a visual check of the headlamp assembly to evaluate if the condensation is normal or not:
Check the housing, lens and ventilation holes for damage. If damage is found replace the headlamp.
To clear normal condensation from the headlamp:
Remove the service covers on the headlamp housing and switch the headlamp low beam on for 30 minutes. Secure battery charging either by having the engine running or by connecting a battery charger.
OR
If a road test is possible: Switch the headlamp low beam on and road test the vehicle for 10 minutes.
If the condensation does not clear, perform the headlamp leak test according to attached instructions.
Inspect the headlamp for damages after removal.
If a leakage is found: Replace the headlamp assembly according to VIDA.
