Shock absorber rear, replacing

Special tools:
999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber
999 5659 Tension caliper 999 5659 Tension Caliper

Removal

Preparatory work
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the wheels.
Install tensioner 999 5659 Tension caliper 999 5659 Tension Caliper. See Tensioner 999 5659, User instructions Removal and Replacement.




5 seats:

Remove:
- the front floor hatch
- the form-moulded floor mat.
Fold the soundproofing over the damper mounting out of the way.
7 seats:
Slide the seat cushion back on the rear row of seats.
Lift up the carpet.
Cut up the soundproofing as illustrated.




Fold up the soundproofing. Remove the cover on the splash guard.

Removing the rear damper




Remove the damper nut. Use socket 999 5500 SOCKET UPPER NUT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 999 5500 Socket Upper Nut Rear Shock Absorber and a Torx-wrench as a counterhold.





Remove:
- the screw in the lower mounting for the damper
- the shock absorber.

Installation

Tightening torque
For further information about tightening torques, see Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the rear damper




Insert the new shock absorber through the control arm to the upper mounting.
Install the new nut loosely.

Note! Ensure that the bush seats correctly in the opening in the rear suspension

Fix the damper in the lower mounting.
Tighten the M12 screw.
Tighten the upper nut for the damper. Tighten to 60 Nm.
Reinstall the carpet.

Note! 5 seats: Reinstall the front floor hatch.7 seats: Slide the seat cushion forward.

Finishing
Remove the tensioner according to: Tensioner 999 5659, User instructions Removal and Replacement.
Install the wheel. See: Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Check and adjust the headlights' alignment according to: Headlamps, aligning Adjustments
