Brake shoes parking brake, replacing

Preparatory work
Resetting the parking brake
If the vehicle has a manual adjustment for the parking brake, see the illustration and no. 1. Reset the parking brake. See: Parking brake, adjusting Parking Brake, Adjusting.
If the vehicle has a self-adjusting parking brake. Reassemble and lock the self-adjuster unit for the parking brake. See: Parking brake self-adjustment, resetting Parking Brake Self-Adjustment, Resetting.
Removal
Removing the brake caliper with the holder and the brake disc
Remove the mounting screws for the brake caliper. Hang the caliper from the spring. Use a wire so as not to damage the brake pipe.
Remove the screw and the brake disc.
Note! Do not damage the ABS line.
Removing the parking brake shoes
Remove the two fixing springs on the brake shoes. Use 999 7225 Wrench 999 7225 Wrench.
Compress the spring and move it backward, and let up so that the spring's end fits the slot in the bracket and can be removed.
Detach the return spring at the expander.
Bend the brake shoes apart and remove them with the return spring and spacer.
Cleaning and checking
Check that no grease has leaked out of the wheel hub.
Check the parking brake expander for damage. Lubricate if necessary.
Clean the surfaces of the brake drum where the brake shoes make contact.
Check that hub flange is clean. Remove any rust.
Lubricate the contact surfaces on the brake shield. Use heat-resistant grease, P/N 116 1325-4.
Installation
Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.
Installing brake shoes
Install:
- the brake shoes
- the spacer and the small return spring on the brake shoes.
Install the fixing springs for the brake shoes and the return spring at the expander.
Install:
- the lower fixing spring, use 999 7225 Wrench 999 7225 Wrench.
Point the spring's catch forward, compress the spring and move it forward and let up so that the catch locks in the bracket.
- the upper fixing spring.
- the return spring by the expander.
Check that the brake shoes are positioned correctly in the expander.
Install the return spring at the expander.
Installing the brake disc and the brake caliper with the holder
Install:
- the 1 M6 screw for the disc
- the screws for the caliper holder. Tighten. See Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.
Use new mounting screws.
Finishing
Adjusting the parking brake
If the vehicle has a manual adjustment for the parking brake, see the illustration and no. 1. Adjust the parking brake. See: Parking brake, adjusting Parking Brake, Adjusting.
If the vehicle has a self-adjusting parking brake. Reset the self adjuster for the parking brake. See: Parking brake self-adjustment, resetting Parking Brake Self-Adjustment, Resetting.
Install the wheel. See: Installing wheels Service and Repair.
Breaking in the new parking brake pads after replacement
Note! Activate the parking brake firmly for 10 minutes.
Break in the parking brake by depressing the parking brake pedal to the third notch. Then drive at 20 km/h for 40 seconds or 250 meters.
With the vehicle stationary, depress the parking brake pedal to the sixth notch. Release the brake pedal without keeping your foot on the pedal.
Post-adjust the parking brake if necessary.
