Design and function

Front suspension

The front suspension is of the McPherson type,
The suspension on either side consists of: spring strut, control arm and anti-roll bar system.

Spring strut
The spring strut consists of shock absorber (21), spring strut bearing (3) with auxiliary spring (5), boot (6), spring (1), upper and lower spring isolators (7), upper bearing (2), stub axle (11) and wheel bearing (12).

Anti-roll bar system
The anti-roll bar system consists of anti-roll bar (16), clamps (15), anti-roll bar bushings (17) and anti-roll bar links (8). Versions with a V8 engine have a uniquely designed anti-roll bar.

The shock absorber
The shock absorber is integrated in the spring strut.
The shock absorber's piston rod, in the upper, is screwed to the upper bearing (2) and in the lower end, screwed to the stub axle (11). The spring (1) is supported against the upper bearing (2) via the spring strut bearing (3). On the underneath of the spring strut bearing (3) there is an auxiliary spring (5) and a boot (6) for the shock absorber's piston rod.
The spring is isolated by upper and lower rubber isolators (4).
There are two versions of standard shock absorber depending on the weight of the vehicle:
- heavy settings
- light settings.
Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) has a comfort, advanced or sport setting.

Control arm
The control arm (19) is attached to the subframe (10) by the front bushing (13) and the rear bushing (14).

Subframe
The subframe (10) is made of steel.
The front and rear bushings (9, 18) are installed with a press joint. Versions with a V8 engine have a unique subframe due to the engine mounting.

Rear suspension

Rear suspension V70 flex-fuel
V70 flex-fuel has 15mm lower rear chassis height and nivomat shock absorbers as standard. This reduces wind resistance and gives lower fuel consumption.

Upper control arm
The upper control arm (6) is cast.
There are two different versions of control arms depending on AWD, 2WD or Four-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept).

Lower control arm
The lower control arm (12) is made of pressed steel. It is mounted between the lateral link (1) and subframe (7).
Toe-in/Toe-out can be adjusted with the inner mounting on the control arm.

The shock absorber
The lower of the shock absorber is screwed to the lateral link (1). The upper bearing (3) is screwed to the body.
There are three types of shock absorber:
- Four-C
- Nivomat
- standard.
There are two different versions of shock absorber depending on the weight of the vehicle:
- heavy settings
- light settings.
Four-C has a comfort, advanced or sport setting.

Anti-roll bar
The anti-roll bar (11) is secured in the lateral link (1) with an anti-roll bar bracket in the subframe (14).
There is only one type of anti-roll bar.

Subframe
The subframe (7) is made of steel.
There are two types of subframes depending on AWD and 2WD.

Stub axle
There are several types of stub axles depending on:
- AWD
- 2WD
- Park Brake Module (PBM) or foot operated parking brake
- shock absorber.

Wheel hub
There are two different types of wheel hub depending on AWD or 2WD.

Wheel sensor
The wheel sensors are located on the rear wheel bearings. They measure the speed of the vehicle using magnetic discs.
