DESCRIPTION:
Navteq has released and mailed the 2013 (12W48) map set to registered MapCare customers. The package includes a set of DVDs with instructions on how to perform the upgrade.

Since the process is slightly more complex for Sensus, it has been communicated to these customers that their Volvo retailer will perform the service for them free of charge if they wish. Before performing one of these upgrades, ensure that the customer has provided the correct disc for the vehicle. The current Sensus map set part number is 31358443.

SERVICE:
If the customer requests you to complete the Map upgrade procedure, please perform the map upgrade for them according to the instructions.

Important Note For Sensus vehicles between structure weeks 201020 and 201045:
The IAM must have at least 2010w46 IAM SW status to perform the Map upgrade. Therefore, S60s produced between Structure week 201020 and 201046 may require an IAM upgrade before the Map upgrade can be started. Customers owning these vehicles have been notified of this in a communication from Navteq along with the map delivery.

Activation Codes
If the customer has not already done so, it will be necessary to retrieve the Map PIN code for that specific from the Navteq website: http://www.navigation.com/volvo/activate.

Enter the VIN number and your email address. The PIN code will be displayed on the screen and an E-mail will also be sent to you with the PIN code information for that VIN number.

It is important to note that every Map version/release will have a unique PIN code for each VIN number. The website is currently only providing PIN codes for disc set part # 31358443. If the customer has an older disc set that they would like to install, or the code is not accepted, the PIN can be obtained from Navteq by calling the Navteq Customer Center at 866-342-7588.

MapCare Registration
If the website returns the message "You are not eligible to receive an activation code" the customer may not have registered for MapCare. Please instruct them to do so at the MapCare registration website:

Note for Canadian Sensus vehicles
The speed limit error described in TJ 26785 is also corrected with this map upgrade. If the customer should present the vehicle with this complaint, performing the current upgrade will resolve this issue as well as update the maps.

Instructions for updating the maps without the engine running
The updates can be performed with the ignition ON and a battery charger connected to the vehicle as follows:

NOTE:
The negative lead from the battery charger must NOT be connected to the battery's negative post. Connect the negative lead to another solid ground point.

It is critical that the chargers negative lead is connected to a solid ground but NOT the battery's negative post. This will help prevent the download from being interrupted and lengthening the process.

Make sure that the battery charger is capable of supplying the vehicle with at least 25 Amps during the map update process. If the battery charger capacity is too low, the map upgrade process will be paused until the engine is started.
