DESCRIPTION:
Unusual noise from the A/C system may occur at idle or while driving due to an expansion valve with the
wrong setting. The symptom is described as a drilling, sawing, growling, grinding, or snoring sound.
Affected vehicle variants:
- S60 or XC60 with engine type B5254T5, B6304T4, B6324S4, B6324S5.
- S80, XC70 with engine type B6304T4, B6324S4, B6324S5.
PRODUCT MODIFICATION:
Climate units with the correct setting of the expansion valve were introduced into production (Torslanda - factory code 21 and Gent - factory code 22) 2012W12.
SERVICE:
In case of customer complaints regarding noise from the A/C system that is confirmed by the workshop, replace the expansion valve according to VIDA.
This noise should not be mistaken for the compressor engagement noise given off on start up of the engine which is normal and lasts from 5 to 15 seconds.
An indication of the valve being at fault is the ability to change or even stop the noise by shutting off the A/C while the noise is present.
Also the faulty valve will have a green striped sticker on it See attachment for pictures.
Do not replace the A/C compressor unless truly defective.
Note:
Any replaced compressor will be called in for warranty inspection.
