Checking the Tank Gauge
Checking the tank gauge
Fault-tracing information
Note! This symptom troubleshooting only applies to vehicles that show any or some of the following symptoms:
- After refuelling, the tank gauge only increases to approx. 1/2 to 3/4 tank, despite the tank being completely filled.
- As the fuel is consumed, the level on tank gauge drops until it reaches approx. 1/4 tank. After this, the gauge's level does not drop anymore.
In both described cases, the vehicle may function normally and no warning messages or trouble codes may appear.

-------------------------------------------------
Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
If there are other trouble codes set that can be associated to the problem with the tank gauge, take care of these first.
Are there relevant diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)?
Yes - Fault-tracing
No - Draining tank
-------------------------------------------------
Draining tank
Now the tank has to be drained of all fuel.

Read-out of fuel volume.
Click the VCT2000 symbol to read off the fuel pump's resistance values.
Resistance measurement should show:
For 2WD:
Active side: 992.2 ±10.5 ohm.
Passive side: 0 ohm.
For AWD:
Active side: 992.2 ±10.5 ohm.
Passive side: 992.2 ±10.5 ohm.
Does the resistance measurement show the correct values?
Yes - Fault-tracing
No - Removing the tank

-------------------------------------------------
Resistance measurement
Rectify in the following order:
- Measure the resistance of the fuel pump's connector.
Hint: For 2WD: Measure between pin 1 and 2.
For AWD: Measure between pin 1 and 2 for the active side and pin 1 and 6 for the passive side.
- Then turn the tank upside down and measure the resistance on the fuel pump's connector again.
Note! When the tank is turned upside down the level indication arm changes end position, which corresponds to a full tank.
Resistance measurement should show:
Empty tank: 992.2 ±10.5 ohm.
Full tank: 51.2 ±1.0 ohm.
Does the resistance measurement show the correct values?
For 2WD:
1. Yes
2. No
For AWD:
3. Active side: Yes Passive side: Yes
4. Active side: Yes Passive side: No
5. Active side: No Passive side: Yes
6. Active side: No Passive side: No
