Electric engine heater, passenger compartment connector, 6 cyl
INTRODUCTION
- Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.
- Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimize the risk of something breaking during installation.
- Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.
- Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.
- In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.
Electric engine heater, passenger compartment connector, 6 cyl
Applies to all models
- Remove the tunnel console's right-hand side panel by carefully pulling it away starting at the rear edge. It is secured with five clips on the inside.
- Fold aside the carpet and the insulation panel underneath. Uncover the right-hand side of the tunnel console's front as well as the hole for the cowl panel rubber grommet.
- Undo the front screw in the mounting for the centre console.
- Take the bracket for the passenger compartment connector socket from the kit. Tighten it in with the previously removed screw.
- Position it so that it is straight and torque tighten the screw to 24 Nm (18 lbf.ft.).
- Fold the carpet back toward the bracket.
- Take a scriber and pierce a hole in the carpet opposite the two holes in the bracket.
- Take the passenger compartment connector socket, a locking sleeve and two screws from the kit. Install the passenger compartment connector socket to the console.
- Press in the locking sleeve on the passenger compartment connector socket. Slide the locking sleeve as far along the connection for the passenger compartment connector socket as possible.
- Take a carpet knife and cut a slit in the carpet just in front of the locking sleeve. Make the cut as long as the diameter of the locking sleeve.
Note! Do not damage any wiring and hoses under the carpet.
- Remove the passenger compartment connector socket from the bracket and fold the carpet to one side.
- Unscrew the screws and remove the engine splash guard.
- Remove the rubber seal in the cowl panel. It shall not be used again.
Applies to cars with already installed engine heater
- Cut off the tie strap holding the cable joint inside the subframe.
- Detach the cable from the clips in the subframe.
Applies to cars with already installed engine heater
- Remove the locking sleeve over the cable splice and separate the cables.
- Install a new clip with tie strap, and two edge clips from the kit on the upper edge of the subframe.
- Take a junction connector, joint cable for passenger compartment connector socket and three locking sleeves form the kit.
- Use low temperature grease, part no. 1161427, to grease O-rings on:
- the connector to the front engine block heater socket
- both connectors on the junction connector
- the connector to the joint cable for the passenger compartment connector socket
Note! Do not get any grease on the surfaces of the connector.
- Take the locking sleeves from the kit.
- Connect the cables in accordance with the following:
- Cable (1) from the engine block heater.
- Joint cable (2) to the passenger compartment connector socket.
- Cable (3) from the front engine block heater socket.
- Press the cables firmly into the junction connector and press the locking sleeves in over the cable splices.
- Press the cables into the four edge clips. Tighten the junction connector into its rear hole to the subframe with the tie strap.
- Remove the engine cover by pulling it up, it is secured with four rubber mountings.
Applies to S80/V70/XC70
- Pull out the two lock pins in the right-hand headlamp.
- Pull out the headlamp some distance and detach the connector on the rear. Place the headlamp to one side.
- Take an edge clip with strap and secure to the plate edge on the subframe's front right-hand corner.
- Take a double strip clamp and double clamp from the kit. Install the double strip clamp on the large cable harness, and the double clamp on the front pipe to the air conditioning behind the headlight.
- Get two double strip clamps from the kit and fasten them on the engine mount on the right side of the engine's top.
- Get the strip clamp and fit it loosely through the hole in the engine mount's front edge.
- Get a strip clamp and two double clamps from the kit. Fit the strip clamp loosely around the console at the rear edge of the engine mount.
- Install both double clamps on the return pipe to the power steering.
- Route the cable to the passenger compartment connector and to the first installed strip clamp in the subframe's right front corner.
- Tighten down the cable. Pull in excess cable in the passenger compartment.
Note! Do not clamp the cable directly to brake pipes, fuel lines, AC pipes or pipes to the power steering.
- Continue to route the cable up on the outside of the right side member, up through the hole in the body on to the clamps at the location for the headlight. Route the cable under the servo pipes and up to the engine mount on the top of the engine.
- Secure the cable in the clamps behind the headlamp.
- Route the cable up further along the engine mount on the top of the engine, and then down on the back of the engine, along the pipes to the power steering. The cable must be routed under the engine mount at its rear edge.
- Clamp the cable in at the previously positioned clamps.
- Take the radiation shield from the kit and pull it on the routed cable.
- Take the rubber grommet and cut away the very top on the largest rubber teat.
- Grease in the rubber grommet using low temperature grease part no. 1161427 in order to make it easier to install the rubber grommet in the hole in the cowl wall.
Note! Do not get any grease on the surfaces of the connector.
- Thread the rubber grommet on the cable.
- Insert the cable in the passenger compartment, adapt the cable length so that it runs out in the engine compartment and press the rubber grommet into place.
- Take the grey strip clamp from the kit and tighten the heat shield to the cable at the rubber grommet.
- Get one double strip clamp from the kit. Clamp the cable in with the heat shield to the rear of the pipes to the power steering.
Applies to the XC60
- Pull out the two lock pins in the right-hand headlamp.
- Pull out the headlamp some distance and detach the connector on the rear. Place the headlamp to one side.
- Loosen the rear hose clamp and move aside the hose for the turbocharger.
- Loosen the hose clamps and remove the rear hose for the turbocharger.
- Take an edge clip with strip clamp and secure them to the plate edge on the subframe's front right corner.
- Get a double strip clamp and double clamp from the kit. Install the double strip clamp on the large cable harness, and the double clamp on the front pipe to the air conditioning behind the headlight.
- Get two double strip clamps from the kit and fasten them on the engine mount on the right side of the engine's top.
- Get the strip clamp and fit it loosely through the hole in the engine mount's front edge.
- Get a strip clamp and two double clamps from the kit. Fit the strip clamp loosely around the console at the rear edge of the engine mount.
- Install the double clamp on the power steering's return pipe.
- Route the cable up to the passenger compartment connector and to the first installed strip clamp in the front right corner of the subframe. Tighten it down. Route all excess cable into the passenger compartment.
Note! Do not clamp the cable directly to brake pipes, fuel lines, AC pipes, or pipes for the power steering.
- Continue to route the cable up on the outside of the right side member, up through the hole in the body on to the clamps at the location for the headlight. Route the cable over the servo pipes and up to the engine mount on the top of the engine.
- Secure the cable in the clamps behind the headlamp.
- Route the cable up further along the engine mount on the top of the engine, and then down on the back of the engine, along the pipes to the power steering. The cable must be routed under the engine mount at its rear edge.
- Clamp the cable in at the previously positioned clamps.
- Take the heat shield from the kit and fit it on the routed cable.
- Take the rubber grommet and cut away the very top on the largest rubber teat.
- Lubricate the rubber grommet with low temperature grease in order to make it easier to install the cable and rubber grommet in the hole in the cowl.
Note! Do not get any grease on the surfaces of the connector.
- Thread the rubber grommet on the cable.
- Insert the cable in the passenger compartment, adapt the cable's length so that it runs out in the engine compartment and press the rubber grommet into place.
- Get a grey strip clamp from the kit and tighten the heat shield to the cable at the rubber grommet.
- Get one double strip clamp from the kit. Clamp down the cable with the heat shield to elbow on the power steering's pipe.
- Reinstall the engine splash guard.
Applies to S80/V70/XC70
- Plug in the connector to the headlamp and reinstall the headlamp.
- Press the two lock pins into the headlamp.
Applies to the XC60
- Plug in the connector to the headlamp and reinstall the headlamp.
- Press the two lock pins into the headlamp.
Applies to all models
- Reinstall the engine cover.
A
- Route the cable onto the bracket for the passenger compartment connector socket.
B
- Route the cable from the engine compartment through the hole in the carpet.
- Grease the O-ring with low temperature grease, part no. 1161427.
Note! Ensure that no grease gets onto the connector surfaces.
- Connect the cable to the passenger compartment connector socket. Press a locking sleeve (from the kit) over the joint.
- Fold the carpet back into position and install the passenger compartment connector socket using both the screws.
- Reinstall the tunnel console's right side panel.
