Part 2
Towbar, hitch
INTRODUCTION
- Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.
- Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimize the risk of something breaking during installation.
- Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.
- Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.
- In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.
Towbar, hitch
Applies to cars with skid plate
- Tape the skid plate on the outside opposite where it is to be sawed to prevent the saw foot from damaging the paintwork.
- Measure and mark up for a cut-out for the tow hitch wiring.
- Saw according to the markings. The shaded surface is to be removed.
Note! Do not damage the painted surface of the skid plate. Cut so that the raised edge on the inside remains. The raised edge marks the cut-out.
- Remove the tape.
- Smooth off the sawn edges with a fine toothed file.
- Install the tow hitch connector with the cable harness according to the appropriate installation instructions.
Applies to cars with R-design
- Apply tape to the outside of the skid plate, opposite the marking on the inside. This is done to protect the paint from the saw when cutting out the cut-out for the towbar.
- Saw out the skid plate according to the marking. The shaded surface is to be removed.
Note! Do not damage the painted surfaces. Cut so that the raised edge on the inside remains. The raised edge marks the cut-out
- Remove the tape.
- Smooth off the sawn edges with a fine toothed file.
- Clean the surface of the bumper cover.
Use: Isopropanol
- Wipe dry.
- Paint the surface. Protect surrounding surfaces.
Use: stone-chip protector 9510228
- Allow to dry.
- Install the tow hitch connector with the cable harness according to the appropriate installation instructions.
- Press the skid plate securely into place.

Note! Two people should carry out the following procedure.

- Hook the skid plate onto the holder and press until all hooks engage.

Hint: The mounting strip on the skid plate can be bent out slightly if it is difficult to hook onto the holder.
- Rivet the lower section of the skid plate at the bumper cover using pop rivets.
Applies to cars with R-design
- Repeat the operation on the other side.
Applies to all models
- Take the ball holder, ball, washer, nut, lock bolt and locking pin from the kit.
- Insert the ball holder in the towing member's square bracket until the holes in the ball holder and square bracket correspond.
- Slide the locking bolt into the hole.
- Lock the other side using the locking pin.
- Position the ball in the hole on the ball holder.
- Install washer and nut. Torque tighten to 224 Nm (180 lbf.ft).
- Make two cuts in the bottom right rear corner of the storage compartment for the strap for securing the tow hitch.
- Thread the strap through the cuts.
- Place the tow hitch in the bag, do it up, place it in the compartment and tighten using the strap.
