Towbar, hitch, base unit
INTRODUCTION
- Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.
- Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimize the risk of something breaking during installation.
- Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.
- Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.
- In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.

Installation of the base unit
Tightening the base unit to the towbar hitch
- Install the bolt, as illustrated. The sprung washer (1) must be positioned between the towbar hitch and the flat washer.
- Use a fixed wrench when tightening. Tighten securely.
Tilting the base unit
- Press catch (A) down to tilt the base unit.
- Lower the base unit (B) until the stop catch engages.
Tilting the base unit back
- Lift up the stop catch (A) and fold back the base unit (B).
- Fold the base unit back until two clicks are heard and the catch pops up.
Locking the base unit
- The base unit can be equipped with a lock which is supplied with the kits for the different load units that can be combined with the base unit. To install the locking cylinder in the lock housing, see the relevant load unit instructions.
Note! On certain car models it may be necessary to saw/cut a piece out of the bumper casing to obtain room for the lock.
Safety checks before a journey
Caution! Make sure that all screws, nuts and tensioning straps are firmly tightened before setting off. Check them at regular intervals.Damaged tensioning straps must be replaced with new ones.The base unit must not be used as an attachment point for towing.The base unit must not be used when driving over terrain.
Note! If the car's license plate is obscured by the base unit there is an extra license plate holder with lighting that is available as an accessory. This should then be used.
Caution! Do not allow the load to shift outside of the base unit.Do not load more onto the base unit than what is specified on the original towbar's type plate (MAX TONGUE WEIGHT).Remember that the car's center of gravity, and consequently its driving characteristics, can be changed by the load.The base unit and associated loading systems must not be used for carrying animals or people.
