Part 2
Towbar, detachable
INTRODUCTION
- Read through all of the instructions before starting installation.
- Notifications and warning texts are for your safety and to minimize the risk of something breaking during installation.
- Ensure that all tools stated in the instructions are available before starting installation.
- Certain steps in the instructions are only presented in the form of images. Explanatory text is also given for more complicated steps.
- In the event of any problems with the instructions or the accessory, contact your local Volvo dealer.
Towbar, detachable
Applies to cars with R-design
- Tape the skid plate on the outside opposite, where it is to be sawn, to avoid the saw damaging the paintwork.
- Cut out the skid plate according to the applicable marking. The shaded area is to be discarded.
Note! Do not damage the painted surfaces. Cut so that the raised edge on the inside remains. The raised edge marks the cut-out.
- Remove the tape.
- Smooth off the sawn edges with a fine toothed file.
- Clean the surface of the bumper cover.
Use: Isopropanol
- Wipe dry.
- Paint the surface. Protect the surrounding surfaces.
Use: stone-chip protection 9510228
- Allow to dry.
- Install the tow hitch connector with cable harness according to the appropriate installation instructions.
- Press the skid plate into place.

Note! This part should be performed by two persons.

- Hook the skid plate on the holder and push on until all the catches engage.
Illustration B
Hint: The fastening strip on the skid plate can be bent out slightly if it is difficult to hook it on the holder.
- Rivet the lower part of the skid plate by the bumper cover with pop rivets.

- Repeat the operation on the other side.

- Take the label from the kit and affix it firmly to the underside of the cargo compartment carpet, as illustrated.
- Attach the four corners of the label with staples.
Applies to all models
- Make two cuts in the bottom of the storage box's right-hand corner for the strap to secure the tow hitch.
- Thread the strap through the cuts.
- Place the tow-hitch in the bag, tie and position in the outlet and tighten with the strap.
- Take the holder for the protective casing from the kit and press it into the hole for the tow hitch. Make sure that the catch (1) snapped shut and that the holder is fitted securely.
- Press the protective casing into the holder until it is in contact with the bumper cover. A number of clicks must be heard when the protective casing is pressed in.
- Check that the protective casing is fitted securely.
When removing
- When removing the protective casing, first pull the lock arm upward until the catch is released, then pull the protective casing away backward.
