DESCRIPTION:

Customer may state that the Sirius radio reception drops out or loses audio for a few seconds while driving. This will also generate an "Acquiring signal" message on the ICM display during the loss of signal event. This condition is known as a dropout. Typically, when the Acquiring Signal message is displayed, it means that the signal from the satellite has been lost, either from normal broadcast limitations or from a fault in the antenna or its associated coaxial cabling and connectors.

BACKGROUND:

Reception for Sirius Radio will vary depending on the vehicles location relative to obstacles that block the line of sight signal path from the Satellite to the vehicle's antenna. Sirius also uses terrestrial repeaters
(land based transmitters) in metropolitan areas where there are tunnel and tall buildings blocking the signal path. The Sirius tuners are also equipped with buffers which can compensate for short term signal blockages less than a few seconds.

SERVICE:
Read and follow the instructions in the attachment in order to determine if the Customer complaint is related to a normal drop out or an actual fault.
