Calibration of Radar and Camera
Calibration of radar and camera
Information
When replacing for a new forward facing radar the radar must be calibrated. When replacing forward-sensing camera, the camera must be calibrated. When replacing Forward Sensing Module (FSM) or downloading software, both the camera and radar must be calibrated. Text message in the Driver information module (DIM) stating that the radar has not been calibrated. Calibration of forward-sensing radar and camera is performed by starting respective calibration procedure and then driving the vehicle. Then the radar measures stationary objects along the road, e.g., guard rails, signs, or similar, and adjusts electronically. The camera searches for road lines, road edges, pavements or similar shapes, which meets a point on the horizon.
Note! If both radar and camera need to be calibrated, the text message goes out in the Driver information module (DIM) first when both calibrations have been completed.
Calibration can be performed at any time of day or night, but should be avoided at:
- Heavy rain.
- Snowfall.
Calibration of camera should be avoided when:
- Fog.
- Wet road at night.
- The dark areas without visible and narrow road lines.
When replacing with a new forward facing camera, replace the Forward Sensing Module (FSM) and on rare occasions, during software download, DTC FSM-C100154 is stored. When changing to a new forward sensing radar, when replacing Forward Sensing Module (FSM), or software download, the diagnostic trouble code FSM-U030055 is generated.
Note! If both diagnostic trouble codes FSM-U030055 and FSM-C100154 are generated, calibrations for radar and camera should be performed at the same time. Start both the calibrations before driving.
Select the desired alternative:
1. Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
2. Activate calibrations.
3. Has calibration been successful?
4. Exit
Select alternative according to above.

Calibration of radar and camera
To calibrate, proceed as follows
- Ignition off for 10 seconds and then on again.
- Check to see if diagnostic trouble code (DTC) FSM-U030055 is stored.
- Check to see if diagnostic trouble code FSM-C100154 is stored.
- Start calibrations by clicking the symbol for VCT2000.
Note! The engine should be off (ignition on) when calibrations are activated.
- Drive the vehicle on road. Forward-sensing radar and camera calibrates itself when the following conditions are fulfilled:
- Vehicle speed at least above 60 km/h, but preferably above 80 km/h. The lower the speed one maintains, the longer calibration takes.
- Constant vehicle speed.
- Driving straight ahead as much as possible. Winding road gives longer calibration time. Drive on flat roads with no hills and speed bumps to shorten the calibration time as much as possible.
- No vehicle driving ahead within approx. 10 car lengths.
- Driving in lanes closest to fixed objects, e.g., guard rails, signs, etc. Road markings visible on both sides of the road are preferable.
The time that the calibration takes is dependent on how often the above conditions are fulfilled during the same driving cycle. It should take about 5 to 15 minutes, but can take longer depending on the driving conditions. The camera's calibration cycle is cancelled automatically after 30 minutes if insufficient number of targets are detected. A new 30 minute period is resumed automatically. When the camera's calibration cycle is interrupted, DTC FSM-C100154 is generated again.
The radar's calibration cycle continues until a sufficient number of targets are detected.
Text message in the Driver information module (DIM) stating that the radar has not been calibrated, goes out when calibration is complete.
If the vehicle restarts before calibration is complete, the calibration starts over from the beginning.

Checking diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Ignition off for 10 seconds and then on again.
Check the calibration of the radar and camera by reading out the diagnostic trouble codes.
If diagnostic trouble codes FSM-U030055 and FSM-C100154 still are generated, the calibration has failed.
Click the VCT2000 symbol to read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Has calibration been successful?
Yes - DONE
No - Fault-tracing information

Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Click the VCT2000 symbol to read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- If diagnostic trouble code U030055 is generated, the radar needs to be calibrated.
- If diagnostic trouble code FSM-C100154 is generated, the camera needs to be calibrated.
- If both diagnostic trouble codes FSM-U030055 and FSM-C100154 are generated, calibrations for radar and camera should be performed at the same time.
Note! If diagnostic trouble codes are erased before calibration has been carried out, the diagnostic trouble codes FSM-C100154 and FSM-U030055 disappear but the text messages remain in the Driver information module (DIM). Diagnostic trouble codes FSM-U030055 and FSM-C100154 return in the next driving cycle. If both radar and camera need to be calibrated, the text message goes out in the Driver information module (DIM) first when both calibrations have been completed.

Erase diagnostic trouble codes
The diagnostic trouble codes must first be erased in order to see if the calibration has been successful.
