Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information ECM-U000100

Condition
The control modules transmit and receive information via a standardized serial communication method - CAN (Control Area Network). The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers serious interference (CAN communication blocked).

Note! In case of system communication problems, it is not possible to communicate with the engine control module (ECM). Therefore it will only be possible to read off the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) if the malfunction is intermittent.

Substitute value
- Engine control module (ECM) stops communicating on the CAN-network "bus-off".

Hint: The engine control module (ECM) will remain off until the voltage feed is broken (15, 30, x-feed). When the voltage is switched on, the engine control module (ECM) will make a new attempt to communicate.

Possible source
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections.
- Open circuit on one of the CAN-cables.
- Short-circuit between the control area network (CAN) wiring.
- Internal malfunction in engine control module (ECM).
- Internal malfunction in another control module in the same part of the CAN-network.

Fault symptom[s]
- General warning light on.
- The cruise control does not function at all
- The engine jerks at acceleration.
- The engine jerks heavily after engine braking.
- Rough idling.
