Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information ECM-U041504

Condition
The Engine control module (ECM) is continuously supplied with information about the status of the brake pedal from the Brake control module (BCM). In vehicles with the adaptive cruise control function, the system can reduce the speed itself by activating the brakes. When this occurs, the ordinary sensors are affected for brake monitoring without disengagement of the cruise control function. In order for the driver's own brake pedal movements to be identified, these vehicles also have an off switch. The information about the switch's status is continuously sent to the Engine control module (ECM) via the CAN network, in the same way as the other brake related signals, and used to disengage the cruise control function.
The control module checks the communication with the Brake control module (BCM).
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:
- The signal with information about the off switch's position contains the same data for too long and is therefore deemed as incorrect.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
- Engine running.

Note! The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.

Hint: If Engine control module (ECM) has been recharged or if the battery voltage has been interrupted, the brake pedal must be pressed down for approx. two seconds, with the engine running, to activate the cruise control function.

Substitute value
- Cruise control is disengaged when the fault is active.

Possible source
- Look for the cause of the fault in the brake control module (BCM).

Fault symptom[s]
- Cruise control/Does not engage
