P050100 (Engine Control Module - ECM)

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information ECM-P050100

Condition
The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the engine's speed. Engine control module (ECM) receives information about the vehicle's speed from Brake control module (BCM) via the CAN-net. The Engine control module (ECM) calculates the relationship between the engine speed and the speed signal from the Brake control module (BCM) giving the current gear ratio as the result. The result is compared to the values programmed in the Engine control module (ECM) about the gear ratios that are possible with the relevant transmission.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:
- The calculated value is outside its permitted range.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
- Speeds above 20 km/h.
- Constant speed for longer than 15 seconds.

Substitute value

Manual transmission.
- The vehicle speed signal is set as a default value.

Automatic transmission.
- Secondary speed signal from Transmission control module (TCM) is used.

Possible source
- Incorrect speed signal from the brake control module (BCM).

Fault symptom[s]
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL), on
- Speedometer displays incorrect value
