Fault-tracing

Checking the component and wiring
Check the camshaft reset valve connector. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation.
Check the signal cable between engine control module (ECM) terminal #A96 (#B36) and camshaft reset valve terminal #2. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Remedy as necessary.

Verification

Verification, part 1

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
Verification consists of two parts; part 1 is carried out via tests in the workshop and part 2 is carried out with a test-drive on road.
If the function is confirmed as incorrect in part 1, then part 2 does not have to be performed. If the function is confirmed as correct in part 1, and if it is possible to test-drive the vehicle on road, part 2 should be performed.
- Start the engine and run it to normal operating temperature.
- Read off the camshaft shift angle and the camshaft shift angle, desired value.
- Press quickly on the accelerator a few times.
Check that the camshaft's change angle follows the reference value with an accuracy of approx. 8 degrees CA (Crank Angle). The difference between the values can be read off in the digital display.

Is the function OK?

No - VERIFICATION FAILED

Yes - Verification, part 2

Verification, part 2

- Test-drive the vehicle on road with load (acceleration) and engine brake. Repeat the procedure a few times so that the camshaft control operates and Engine control module (ECM) can perform the diagnosis.
- Connect VCT2000 to the data link connector (DLC) without switching off the engine.
- Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the diagnostic trouble code by selecting the diagnostic trouble code in the list.

Note! If the engine is switched off, the stored fault status will be erased and the test drive will have to be repeated.

Check fault status for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) when the diagnosis is Completed. If the function is correct, the fault status must be "No fault found" when the diagnostic is complete.
