Description of Frozen Values, TCM

Description of frozen values

General
Frozen values are parameter values that are stored when a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored.
Not all the parameters described need to be implemented in the control module. This varies from system to system. Parameters can also vary depending on with which type of transmission the vehicle is equipped.
Certain parameters can be displayed without a value or with unreasonable values. This can occur if the control module has not stored a value, when a basic value has been stored instead or if the parameter is received via the CAN-network when there is an error on the CAN-network. For example, the rpm values may be unreasonable if a malfunction occurs for the transmission's speed sensors.

Definition of an operating cycle
The definition of an operating cycle varies depending on the software version.

Alternative definitions
- Ignition switched off, then switched on and finally switched off again
- Ignition switched off, the engine started and finally the ignition switched off again
- Ignition off, engine started, driving at a speed above 30a km/h for more than 3 minutes and finally the ignition turned off again.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) the frozen values are stored for.

Global time
The value indicates the time since the central electronic module (CEM) was powered the first time. The Transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the control area network (CAN) from the central electronic module (CEM). The value is given in minutes.

Outside temperature
The value indicates the outside temperature when the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the CAN-net from the central electronic module (CEM). The value is given in °C.

MECU power supply
The value indicates the voltage in volts. The first and last time the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the CAN-net from the central electronic module (CEM). The value is given in volts (V).

Control module power supply
The value indicates the system voltage. The value is given in volts (V).

Distance
The value indicates the total driving distance of the car when the diagnostic trouble code was stored. The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value from the central electronic module (CEM) via the CAN network.

Power supply position
The value indicates the current status of the power supply mode.

Gear position sensor, position
The value indicates the position of the gear selector based on the signal from the gear-shift position sensor. The following values can be displayed: P, R, N, D.

Vehicle speed (TCM)
The value shows the vehicle's speed. The speed is calculated from the transmission's speed, rpm sensor (input and output rpm) as well as speed signal from Brake Control Module (BCM).

Calculated speed
The value indicates the speed calculated from the signal from the transmission's rpm sensor (output rpm)

Engine speed (RPM)
The engine control module (ECM) transmits engine speed on the CAN network. The transmission control module (TCM) retrieves the signal from the CAN network and compares it to the signal from its rpm sensor (input rpm).
The value indicates the engine speed (RPM).

Engine torque
The value indicates the engine torque. The value is given in Nm.

Gear according to the shift solenoids
The value indicates the selected gear (according to the shift solenoids). The value indicated depends on the transmission type.
The following values can be shown: reverse gear, gear 1, gear 2, gear 3, gear 4, gear 5 and gear 6.

Oil temperature
The value indicates the temperature of the transmission fluid. The value is calculated from the oil temperature sensor signal and is given in °C.

Expected gear ratio
The value shows the gear ratio that is expected by transmission's control module (TCM).

Current gear ratio
The value indicates the transmission's gear ratio.

Input speed
The value indicates the input rpm from the transmission's rpm sensor. Rpm can be generated with the engine idling and the gear selector in P/N position. If the gear selector is in any other position, a gear is engaged and the transmission input shaft is connected to the output shaft and an rpm is first shown when the vehicle is driven. Depending on the slip in the torque converter, the transmission's rpm and the engine rpm will differ when lock-up is not engaged. With lock-up engaged the rpm should be the same as engine rpm.

Output speed
The value indicates the output speed calculated based on the signal from the transmission's rpm sensor (output rpm). The value is given in rpm.

Shift solenoids S1-S2 status
The value indicates the status of shift solenoids S1 - S2.
OFF = Solenoid not activated.
ON = Solenoid activated.

Hint: If the value for shift solenoid S1-S2, which is activated by the transmission control module (TCM), is OFF and the status of shift solenoid S1-S2 is ON, the solenoid circuit is either open or short circuited to supply voltage. If the value for shift solenoid S1-S2, which is activated by the transmission control module (TCM), ON and its status is OFF, the solenoid circuit is short circuited to ground.

Linear pressure solenoid SLT, SLU, SLB1, SLC1, SLC2, SLC3 current
The value shows the current through the solenoid and is given in milliampere (mA).

Linear pressure solenoid SLT, SLU, SLB1, SLC1, SLC2, SLC3 requested current
The value shows requested current for activating the solenoid. The value is given in milliampere (mA).

Expected gear
The value indicates expected gears 1-6.

Lock-up function according to solenoids
The value indicates the status of the Lock-up function.
- No Lock-up function.
- Slipping Lock-up function.
- Locked lock-up function.

Expected Lock-up function
The value indicates the status of the Lock-up function.
Active = Lock-up function engaged.
Not active = Lock-up function not engaged.

Slipping lock up
The value shows the difference in rpm between the engine and transmission.

Park / neutral position (PNP) switch status
The value indicates the status of the solenoid for the start lockout function.
Start permitted/Start not permitted.

Accelerator pedal (AP) position
The value indicates the position of the accelerator pedal (AP). The transmission control module (TCM) obtains the value via the CAN-net from the engine control module (ECM). The value is given in %.

LIN-communication status
The value shows status of the communication between Gear Selector Module (GSM) and Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Gear selector assembly functionality, status
The value indicates the status of gear selector assembly functionality
