DESCRIPTION:
There may be a rumbling / soft knocking noise from the rear shock absorbers on S60 when driving on uneven roads. The noise could also occur on S80 equipped with lowered Sport chassis (not 4-C Chassis)
Analysis indicates that the noise could originate from the bottom valve inside the rear shock absorber(s). The noise may get worse in cold weather conditions.
New shock absorbers with improved tuning of the bottom valves were introduced in production and spare parts from 2011 week 48; however analysis indicates that the noise is not completely eliminated.
PRODUCT MODIFICATION:
Analysis has resumed for remaining noise issues
MATERIAL RETURN:
Only if requested.
VEHICLE REPORT:
Yes, please submit a Vehicle Report if the service solution described in this TJ has no effect or if the vehicle is outside the chassis number range. Submit a TIE-THD Vehicle Report and use Function Group

If possible, include photos showing the label attached on the shock absorbers, with visible part number and date code, etc.
SERVICE:

If customer complaint/symptom is confirmed on either or both sides of the vehicle, and the symptom in TJ 23844 is not the cause, replace the rear shock absorber(s) according to VIDA instructions using stock
spare parts.
