Steering Gear: Service and Repair

Steering gear






Removal

Note! Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Follow instructions for lifting points body frame Refer to: Jacking points body Locations





Note! Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.





Warning! Make sure that the ignition key is removed.

Caution! Make sure that the steering column lock is engaged.

Vehicles without Steering Column Lock









Note! Make sure that a new component is installed.

Torque: steering column to steering gear (steering shaft joint), 25 Nm

Drain reservoir fluid power steering

On both sides.

Remove the wheel Refer to: Wheels Service and Repair




On both sides.





Caution! Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

Torque: Tie rod end to wheel knuckle, 80 Nm

On both sides.




951 2945 Puller 951 2945 Puller
On both sides.








Torque: Front stabilizer bar link to stabilizer bar, 70 Nm

On both sides.








Torque: M5, 5 Nm









Warning! Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

Warning! Avoid skin contact with the fluid

Note! Make sure that a new component is installed.

Torque: Delivery and return line, steering gear, 18 Nm





Caution! Make sure that the exhaust flexible pipe is not forcibly bent.




Torque: M8, 24 Nm




1. Torque: Lower arm front to subframe (rear mounting), 175 Nm

2. Torque: Steering gear to subframe, 140 Nm




1. Torque: M10, 50 Nm

2. Torque: Subframe to chassis (Rear screws) Stage 1: 150 Nm Stage 2: 90 degree

















Installation

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Top up power steering system, bleeding Refer to: Power steering system, bleeding, B6304T4, B5254T5 Service and Repair

Perform wheel angles check Refer to: Wheel angles, check Service and Repair
