Fault-Tracing Information
Fault-tracing information
Condition
If the carbon brushes, brush springs, commutator or windings for the starter motor are defective, the starter motor will not be able to deliver full power.
Possible source
- Great resistance in the starter circuit due to poor contact in connectors/transitions in the power supply side (B+).
- Great resistance in the starter circuit due to poor contact in connectors/transitions in the ground side (B-).
- Worn carbon brushes or too low pressure in the brush springs
- Large resistance because of a dirty commutator
- Short-circuit in the windings
- Defective bearing which makes the rotor drag against the pole pieces.
- Poor battery.
Fault symptom[s]
- Low rotation speed in the starter motor.
