Discarding pyrotechnic components (Continued)

Passenger side airbag (SRS), destruction

Special tools:

Preparatory work

Installation of passenger side airbag (SRS) in mounting fixture





Warning! Use personal protection equipment. See Discarding pyrotechnic components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.

Position the airbag so that it is filled upward when discharged. See illustration.
Screw the airbag into its normal screw mounting on the mounting brackets. Tighten the screws.
Screw the mounting brackets into the fixture. Tighten the screws.

Destruction of single stage passenger side airbag (SRS)

Installation of adapter cable to passenger side airbag (SRS)




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Select the correct adapter cable for the airbag.
Connect the adapter cable to the airbag. Check that it is properly connected.

Warning! Remove all loose objects on, or directly connected to, the airbag.

Connecting cables to the passenger side airbag (SRS)




Lay out the connection cable so that the user is 9 m from the airbag.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.

Destruction of single stage passenger side airbag (SRS)




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the airbag by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Warning! Use pliers when removing due to heat development.

If the adapter cable is still attached, detach the adapter cable from the airbag as soon as possible after destruction. Use protective safety gloves.
Remove the destroyed airbag from the fixture.

Destruction of dual stage passenger side airbag (SRS)

Installation of adapter cable to passenger side airbag (SRS)




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Connect the adapter cable to stage 1, marked on the airbag either with an "A" or in green. Check that the cable is properly connected.

Connecting cables to the passenger side airbag (SRS)




Lay out the connection cable so that the user is 9 m from the airbag.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.

Destruction of airbag stage 1




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the airbag by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Warning! Before activating stage 2, wait 30 minutes due to heat development. Use protective safety gloves.

Installing the adapter cable to airbag stage 2




Then connect the adapter cable to stage 2, marked on the airbag either with a "B" or in purple.

Warning! Avoid skin contact with the airbag due to heat development.

Destruction of airbag stage 2




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the airbag by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Warning! Use pliers when removing due to heat development.

If the adapter cable is still attached, detach the adapter cable from the airbag as soon as possible after destruction. Use protective safety gloves.
Remove the destroyed airbag from the fixture.

Destruction of three stage passenger side airbag (SRS)

Installation of adapter cable to passenger side airbag (SRS)




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Connect the adapter cable to stage 1, marked on the airbag either with an "A" or in green. Check that the cable is properly connected.

Connecting cables to the passenger side airbag (SRS)




Lay out the connection cable so that the user is 9 m from the airbag.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.

Destruction of airbag stage 1




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the airbag by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Then connect the adapter cable to stage 2, marked on the airbag either with a "B" or in purple.

Turn the key to position 0.

Remove the destroyed airbag from the fixture.

Installing the adapter cable to airbag stage 3




Then connect the adapter cable to stage 3, marked on the airbag either with a "C" or in yellow.

Warning! Avoid skin contact with the airbag due to heat development.

Destruction of airbag stage 3




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the airbag by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Warning! Use pliers when removing due to heat development.

If the adapter cable is still attached, detach the adapter cable from the airbag as soon as possible after destruction. Use protective safety gloves.
Remove the destroyed airbag from the fixture.

Belt tensioner, destruction

Preparatory work

Installation of belt tensioner in mounting fixture





Warning! Use personal protection equipment. See Discarding pyrotechnic components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.

Install the belt tensioner in its normal screw joint on the mounting bracket.
On belt tensioners with a "pipe", aim the pipe away from the user.
Screw the mounting bracket to the fixture.

Destruction of single stage belt tensioner

Connecting cables to the belt tensioner




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Select the correct adapter cable for the belt tensioner.
Connect the adapter cable to the belt tensioner.
Check that it is properly connected.

Warning! Remove all loose objects on or directly connected to the seat belt tensioner.

Lay out the connection cable so that the user is 9 m from the belt tensioner.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.

Destruction of belt tensioner




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the belt tensioner by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Detach the adapter cable from the belt tensioner. Remove the destroyed belt tensioner from the fixture.

Destruction of dual stage belt tensioner

Connecting cables to belt tensioner stage 1




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Connect the adapter cable to stage 1, marked on the belt tensioner with an "A" and in green. Check that the cable is properly connected.




Select the correct adapter cable for the belt tensioner in question.
Connect the adapter cable to the belt tensioner. Check that it is properly connected.

Warning! Remove all loose objects on or directly connected to the seat belt tensioner.

Lay out the adapter cable in a manner that complies with the safety regulations of the workplace.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.

Destruction of belt tensioner stage 1




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the belt tensioner by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Connecting cables to belt tensioner stage 2




Connect the adapter cable to stage 2, marked on the belt tensioner with a "B" and in purple.

Destruction of belt tensioner stage 2




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the belt tensioner by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Seat airbag (SIPS), destruction

Preparatory work

Installation of seat airbag (SIPS) in mounting fixture





Warning! Use personal protection equipment. See Discarding pyrotechnic components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.

Position the airbag so that the cover with label on the module point up.
Screw the airbag into its normal screw mounting on the mounting brackets. Tighten the screws.
Screw the mounting brackets into the fixture. Tighten the screws.

Destruction of seat airbag (SIPS)

Connecting cables to the seat airbag (SIPS)




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Select the correct adapter cable for the airbag.
Connect the adapter cable to the airbag. Check that it is properly connected.
Check that the cable is not near the airbag.

Warning! Remove all loose objects on, or directly connected to, the airbag.

Lay out the connection cable so that the user is 9 m from the airbag.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.

Destruction of seat airbag (SIPS)




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the airbag by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Remove the destroyed airbag from the fixture.

Inflatable curtain (IC), destruction

Note! Only applies to S40 (04-) and V50

Preparatory work

Installation of inflatable curtain (IC) in mounting fixture





Warning! Use personal protection equipment. See Discarding pyrotechnic components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.

Install the gas generator without inflatable curtain in its normal screw joint on the mounting bracket.

Note! Direct the inflatable curtain component away from the user and make sure it extends away from the gas generator.

Screw the mounting bracket to the fixture.

Destruction of inflatable curtain (IC)

Connecting cables to the inflatable curtain (IC)




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Select the correct adapter cable for the gas generator.
Connect the adapter cable to the inflatable curtain. Check that it is properly connected.

Warning! Remove all loose objects on, or directly connected to, the gas generator.

Lay out the connection cable so that the user is 9 m from the inflatable curtain.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.

Destruction of inflatable curtain (IC)




Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the gas generator by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Warning! Use pliers when removing due to heat development.

If the adapter cable is still attached, detach the adapter cable from the gas generator as soon as possible after destruction. Use protective safety gloves.
Remove the destroyed gas generator from the fixture.

Inflatable curtain (DMIC), destruction

Note! Only applies to C70 (06-)

Preparatory work

Installation of inflatable curtain (DMIC) in mounting fixture





Warning! Use personal protection equipment. See Discarding pyrotechnic components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.

Install the gas generator with the inflatable curtain in its normal screw joint on the mounting bracket.

Note! Direct the inflatable curtain component away from the user and make sure it extends away from the gas generator.

Screw the mounting bracket to the fixture.

Connecting cables to the inflatable curtain (DMIC)




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Select the correct adapter cable for the gas generator.
Connect the adapter cable to the inflatable curtain. Check that it is properly connected.

Warning! Remove all loose objects on, or directly connected to, the gas generator.

Lay out the connection cable so that the user is nine meters from the inflatable curtain.
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.





Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the gas generator by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Warning! Use pliers when removing due to heat development.

If the adapter cable is still attached, detach the adapter cable from the gas generator as soon as possible after destruction. Use protective safety gloves.
Remove the destroyed gas generator from the fixture.

Roll bar (ROPS), destruction

Installation of roll bar (ROPS) in mounting fixture





Note! Only applies to C70 (06-)

Warning! Use personal protection equipment in accordance with: Discarding pyrotechnic components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.

Install the roll bar (ROPS) in its normal screw joint on the mounting bracket.

Connecting cables to the roll bar (ROPS)




Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.
Select the correct adapter cable for the gas generator.
Connect the adapter cable to the roll bar (ROPS) gas generator. Check that it is properly connected.

Warning! Remove all loose objects on, or directly connected to, the gas generator.

Lay out the connection cable so that the user is 9 m from the roll bar (ROPS).
Connect the adapter cable to the connection cable and fully extend the leads.
Connect the cable to the discharge box.
Connect the discharge box to a fully charged 12 V battery.





Insert the key and turn it to position 1.
Destroy the roll bar (ROPS) gas generator by connecting the rocker switch and push-button.
Turn the key to position 0.
Remove the key from the discharge box and store so that it is inaccessible for unauthorized use.

Warning! Use pliers when removing due to heat development.

If the adapter cable is still attached, detach the adapter cable from the gas generator as soon as possible after destruction. Use protective safety gloves.
Remove the destroyed roll bar (ROPS) from the fixture.
